Week 36, 5 days
3 weeks, 2 days to go
A couple weeks ago I had an ultrasound at week 33 that diagnosed me as having "mild polyhydramnios" with an AFI of 23. Last week I had a follow-up and I was "borderline polyhydramnios" with an AFI of 21. This basically means that I have higher than typical levels of amniotic fluid. My impression from talking to the midwives is that there really isn't a lot of information about it, but there are risks associated with polyhydramnios, so we're trying to 'keep an eye on it'. I am asking them to consult a doctor as needed. I don't want to do another ultrasound if I don't need to; it's TBD how much we are paying out of pocket for each one.
All this has led me to continue mentally preparing for the possibility of a hospital birth. Of course I really would prefer to be with the midwives whom I've grown familiar with... but if it's safer for me & the baby, it obviously makes sense to do.
