DD1 stayed home again today.  She's not technically sick any more, but she was very low energy this morning and hadn't eaten enough yesterday, so I wanted to keep her home to "fatten her up" for school tomorrow:)  She's been eating and I took her to Wendy's for chicken nuggets (since she missed chicken nuggets at school).  Now we are painting her ( Read more... )

I'm sorry your little one hasn't been very well! Although chicken nuggets sound enough to get anyone back to health (I am craving chicken nuggets now).

As for the writing, it can depend. When I am in the mood I can just rattle out a whole 3-4,000 word fic in an evening. But when I am not in the mood, it's like drawing blood from a stone and I'm lucky if I manage 3-400 words :/ My record was 10,000 words in 3 days, that's about as good as its ever been!

Thanks darling! She was definitely not feeling well yesterday and whiny and mopey. Much better today. I'm just erring on the side of caution. We've been have a mellow day and I'm glad to see her cheered up.

For the record, she's almost 10 and I can't believe how big she's gotten lately (even if "big" in this case means almost 55 lbs and about 50 inches).

Thanks for the data on the writing speed. I just don't pay attention to the time at all. I know I can get a drabble out in 15 minutes, but that's not a whole story and I suspect it doesn't scale.

I guess if I am inspired to write, then about 4 hours or so? I wrote Dear Idiot in pencil in a notebook on a 4 hour train journey, and Meeting the Minister I started at about 6pm and just wrote into the early hours because I couldn't leave it. If I am taken over by an idea for a fic, I just stay up stupidly late and regret it the whole next day :/

I usually have a few hours to write every night, from about 6 onwards if I'm not at work! I have a weird thing with evenings, I will be as busy as you like during the day but I like to 'save up' my evenings when it is possible and not think of anything work related. Of course this doesn't always work! But that's the way I like to do things if I can.

No no! You should ask there. Definitely. It's a good resource for us. I was prompting KF to ask for prompts there, should she need one.

Lurk away honey:) (Especially if you are going to leave me lovely icons like this:))

If you have time and inclination, could you look at remix fic and poke it and tell me what it needs? I feel so stuck with it. No worries if you've not got time. I've only written about 10 extra words.

Thanks! She's doing fine. She's complaining that nail polish doesn't dry faster at the moment:D Today is much better than yesterday. Here's hoping little sister doesn't get it.

OMG. You are a machine! I am pretty sure I can't write 1K in an hour no matter how much moment I've got. But you also have a lot more experience.

What is up with the slow process? /rhetorical question. I want to get this remix fic right and I think I'm thinking about it too hard. I haven't had the space to write on it the last couple days, what with child being at home though. Good thing I started the other fic. I'm glad to have something I can work on.

Thanks.

Ah, wow. I never did much roleplaying, and definitely not on-line. I played in a MUD once. I think I did it for three days and then quit.

I feel like I have too many balls in play for this remix fic. I have the basic plot, but I have this other stuff going on (that I can't talk about right now) and I'm trying to get all these subtle layers right and I'll just stop talking about it now. Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm not at all concerned about the amount of time it takes me to write a story. I was just asking for myself and for lewisian_gneiss as she had asked me the other day.

Any idea how long it takes you to write say 1K worth of words? Finished.

That depends on a number of factors - if I have momentum/am in The Zone, perhaps around an hour with writing/first edit. If I'm having problems of some kind, it could take any amount of time! :) It also depends on what language I'm writing in.

LOL. The elusive zone.

Problems. Fah on the problems. I am tired of fic being sticky and problematic. (Remix fic, I'm looking at you:P).

Oooh, yeah. If I were to try to write in Italian, it would take hours longer.

Is it longer for you to write in English? How many languages do you write in?

Every fic has problems. Which is part of what makes writing interesting, too - trying to solve the problems, or sometimes, if you're lucky, having them solve themselves. :)

That was the time for writing in English, which is slower for me - and I only write in two languages! :)

Yes, definitely!

In the past, the problems were pretty much all plot related. In this case, I've got the plot (or the skeleton anyway), but it's more like a brain twister because of my take on the story and that's what's got me in a twist. I can only hope I get some revelation that clarifies everything!

:) Got it.

Wahoooo. That is fast. Maybe I'll get there too, some day:) The internal censor definitely slows me down.
