I'm on my break. My break from outlining. Now, for anyone who knows anything about law school or has seen the various movies/television shows that mention law school, you would know that outlining is important. It's something they talk about to us law students from day one. However, no one ever really explains how one goes about doing this. So, we're left to our own devices, which is kinda scary. Thus, I've spent the last 28 hours beginning my idea of an outline. Which means, aside from 8 hours of sleep last night, I've spent all my time typing up my handwriten notes from Contracts (my first final). And now I'm done with that. So onto stage two tonight.
While typing my notes throughout the semester, I've been putting The West Wing DVDs on tv and listening/watching them. And I've come to realize that the majority of tv that is currently on really, really sucks. The dialogue and acting on West Wing is so sharp that it puts most of the current crop of tv shows to shame. There are some wonderful bright spots- Dexter has the perfect acting/writing combo, 30 Rock is constantly brilliant (anything Tina Fey touches turns to gold...), and I enjoy The Office. And I know I don't watch Mad Men (I think I'll marathon seasons one and two over xmas break), but I'm sure that's as good as they say as well. But everything else seems to be leagues below something like West Wing. Granted, West Wing is one of the most honored shows in TV history, but still, I want more quality shows like that one.
I also read today a list of the shows that will remain on Broadway following the death knells of early January and it makes me really sad- I've already seen most of them. And while new shows will open in the winter/spring, I'll have waaaaaay less things to see on Broadway (not that I had a ton left to see, but still....). This economy makes me sad....
But outlining makes me more sad. Law School is hard. I think I'll watch the office so I can smile a bit.
