“You hung up on me last night.” Matt caught up with Danny as they were entering the building.

“What?”

“Last night. We were talking on the phone and you said “Hold on,” then you said, “We can’t do this right now,” and then you said you’d call me right back. Which you didn’t.”

“I didn’t say we couldn’t do this.”

“Yeah next time, when you cover the mouthpiece, you should make sure you actually, you know, cover the mouthpiece.”

Danny gave him a look. “Maybe if you weren’t an eavesdropper-“

“Then you know what you said?”

‘What?” Danny hesitated, fearing that Matt had heard more of his conversation with Jordan.

“Nothing. You hung up on me.”

They climbed the stairs to Matt’s office. “Get over it,” Danny told him as they walked into Matt’s office as Matt grabbed his folder and Danny got a bottle of water. “What are you going to do about the Walken sketch?” Danny paused, taking a swig of water. “I was thinking maybe a costume change and moving camera four around to stage left then?” Danny stopped, looking up when Matt didn’t answer. “Matt, what do you think about that?” Matt still didn’t answer. “Matt!”

“See, that right there was my way of hanging up on you.”

Danny rolled his eyes and walked out of the office, Matt on his heels. “Soooo...” Matt looked at Danny curiously.

“Matt...”

“Oh come on! I tell you about Harriet.”

“No, I see you and Harry under the bleachers. Then I mention it. There’s a difference. Unless you count that time you were talking about her overbite. But then you weren’t really giving me news you were just being pathetic in your own little-“

“What did she say?” Matt whined, heading down the hallway.

“We talked. It was nice.”

“It was nice…?” Matt raised his eyebrows, as they wandered towards Danny’s office.

“The talking.”

“But not the rest…”

“Well, that was- There was no rest.”

“Right.”

“I swear Matt. There was nothing. We just talked. About work. Nothing really, just mindless talking. She had questions about something technical. So I answered her and -“

“When’s the date?”

“Sunday night at 8.” Danny turned into his office, and smiling, Matt walked on, heading down to the dressing rooms.

----------

Danny sat at his desk filling out some paperwork when Tommy strode in.

“Did you talk to him?”

Danny looked up, moving his glasses up to his forehead. “Yeah I did. Actually…” Danny thought for a second. “You know what, actually he never answered me on that.”

“Danny…”

“I know, I’ll get it for you. If this sounds okay I was thinking about moving four around to the left?”

“Hey, as long as you don’t see my neck, I’ll be cool.”

Danny turned back to his papers. “Yeah, what was that again?

Tommy eyed him warily. Danny looked up when Tom didn’t answer. “What?”

“Nothing. It’s just… it’s a little embarrassing.”

“Believe me. I do embarrassing well.”

“I took my date, you know, Lucy… anyway, I took her to this cool restaurant the other day. Totally awesome, you should really go. And she liked it.” Tom stopped talking and Danny looked up waiting for the rest of the story.

“And?”

“And…. That’s it.”

“That doesn’t tell me why…” Danny faded off getting it. “Ah.”

“Yeah.”

“She liked it.”

“That she did.”

“Okay then. Well, good for you, and you know, try not to uh, you know… less visible places maybe?”

“Definitely.”

The two stared at each other, an awkward silence stretching out between them.

They both started at the same time, “Well-“

“I’m just gonna-“

They stopped with another brief silence before Tommy turned and abruptly left Danny’s office.

----------

“Hey, why don’t we head over to Jacks,” Danny strode into Matt’s office, bouncing on his heels.

“What?”

“Let’s go see Jack.” Matt kept writing on his laptop.

“About what?” Matt looked up when Danny didn’t answer. His head was down, fidgeting with Matt’s pencils.

“Oh, for goodness sakes!”

“What?” Danny looked up, trying to school his face into an innocent questioning glance.

“You’re pathetic.”

“So you’ll go then?”

“Yeah let me get my coat.”

----------

“So what are you going to say to Jack?”

Danny was watching the little light change above the doorway, dinging with each successive floor. Were they stuck? Why was this so slow? “Huh?”

“Jack. NBS building. Us. Ring a bell?”

“I’ll just tell him that I was in the building and was wondering about the FCC thing.” They stepped off of the elevator onto Jordan’s floor.

“Why don’t you just actually go see her? I mean-“ Matt stopped talking when he noticed that Danny had stopped walking. He looked back to see him standing still staring ahead. Matt followed Danny’s gaze to a man outside Jordan’s office.

“Kevin is it? Look Kevin. I need like, 2 seconds. Really, I won’t-“

“I’m sorry Mr. Beam, but she’s busy right now.”

“She has a meeting?” The man impatiently moved towards the door, Kevin standing in his way.

“No, but she’s on a -“

“If she doesn’t have a meeting then why can’t you let me go in? This is ridiculous, I only need-“

“Excuse me.” Danny walked up with Matt right on his heels to be sure he didn’t deck the man. He could see the headline now, ‘Wannabe boyfriend of pregnant boss strangles baby’s father.’

Danny glared at the familiar man, and looked past him to Kevin. “Kevin?” Kevin slightly nodded and Danny turned and walked towards Jordan’s office.

“Hey!” Beam started towards Danny and the door, reaching out to grab Danny’s jacket. Matt quickly stepped forward putting himself between the two as Danny spun back towards Beam.

“Ok. Everything is okay here. We’re good. Everyone is good.” Matt looked back in forth between the two of them, trying to keep everything nice and tidy. “Okay. Danny.” Matt continued looking warily at Beam while addressing Danny, making sure he didn’t lunge by him. “Go inside the office. Roger, I think you better come back later. Now is not a good time. Jordan is working, and we’re trying to, so, yeah…not a good time.” Matt tried speaking gently, hoping that they would listen.

“I’m not going anywhere! I’m going inside that office and if he thinks he can just-“

Danny took a step closer. “Just what?”

“Okay!” Matt said, trying to get back control.

“Turn around and go home. We’re working. And you’re not coming near her.” Danny growled. The two stared at each other.

“Kevin, can you get security on the phone?” Matt muttered before addressing Beam again. “Roger look. Right now is not a good time. We won’t call if you leave now. Just, just make an appointment or something, huh?”

Danny started to interject, not liking the idea of him coming anywhere near Jordan, but Matt elbowed him in the chest.

“If she thinks she can fucking ignore me, letting this cokehead control her life-“

Matt turned around and put his hands on Danny’s chest as Danny took a step forward. “Roger!” Matt pleaded one more time.

“I’m going.” Roger turned around and walked towards the elevator, just as Jordan opened her door.

“What’s all the commotion out-“ she stopped short as she saw Danny angrily shove Matt’s restraining arms off of him, and stalk a few paces, facing away from the group.

Danny took a few calming breaths while everyone stood still. Finally he turned around and plastered a smile onto his face. “Nothing. Matt and I were just having a disagreement.” Matt looked at him questioningly, wondering why he wasn’t telling Jordan about Roger.

She eyed him warily. “What’s going on?”

Matt took that as his cue to leave. “I’m just going to…” he motioned with his thumb over his shoulder. “I’ll be at the studio. Uh just… yeah. Bye.” Matt turned and started towards the elevator as Danny walked by Jordan and into her office. She shut the door, the two of them standing just next to it.

“Hi.” Danny smiled and leaned in to kiss her briefly.

Jordan pulled back. “What’s going on?”

“What do you mean?”

“Danny.”

He sighed and flung himself onto her couch.

“Don’t worry about it.”

“No not this time. You don’t get to use that this time." Jordan walked around to stand in front of him. "I hear shouting and walk out of my office to see you shove your best friend? Tell me what’s going on.”

Danny sighed again and crossed his legs looking away angrily. “Roger was here.”

“Roger?”

“Yeah - you remember Roger right? Self-righteous bastard who-“

“Why didn’t he come in?”

Danny looked at Jordan incredulously. “You wanted him to come in?”

Jordan looked at Danny’s face and strode away from him. “I can’t just shut him out Danny. He’s my baby’s father.” She turned to her desk, gathering folders.

Danny uncrossed his legs then, slumping his shoulders and looking down at his hands in his lap sadly. “I would say he made it pretty clear from the beginning that he wanted to be shut out.”

Jordan turned back to him with a rebuke but stopped when she saw his posture. “Danny…”

“Listen, I’m not saying that I actually am anything here. I mean, we don’t know... you don’t know what you want this to be. But I’m the one who wants to be here.” He didn’t look up and she walked over to sit next to him.

“I like you being here.”

Danny looked up and smiled at her sadly. “I should go. Matt’s probably waiting in the hall.”

“He said he was going back to the studio.”

Danny just looked at her and she smiled. “Right.”

“Look, if you want to meet with him that’s fine. I mean, I don’t have any right to say anything about that.” He paused wishing he had and hating himself. “For your sake I hope he’s decided not to be a complete asshole.”

“Danny…”

“I know, I shouldn’t say that, I’m sorry that I-“

“Danny. I was going to ask you what time you would be picking me up tonight.”

Danny looked at her blankly. Suddenly, “The date!”

“You forgot?”

“No, no. I mean for that split second. Roger said… and then I was thinking…” he stopped realizing his tendency to lose complete control of his brain-mouth functions around her. “I didn’t forget. Around 7:30?”

“7:30 is good.”

“Good.”

“Good.” Jordan smiled remembering their last conversation. “I’ll call you.”

Danny smirked as he backed towards the door, pulling it shut as he left.

“That’s my line.”
