The Thomas Crown affair

Aug 06, 2009 20:40

1999
Director: John McTiernan
Actors: Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo, Denis Leary, Faye Danaway

In Russian: Афера Томаса Крауна

It is a remake of the 1968 film of the same name

'Can other people trust you?' asks Faye Dunaway (Faye Dunaway played Crown's psychiatrist) the hero of Pierce Brosnan
'You mean society at large?'
'I mean women, Mr. Crown...'
This is the point! This cut of conversation starts the film. And in the beginning of the film we should trace the matter of trust. Faye Dunaway knew what she asked. She played the Catherine Banning role (female main role) in the 1968 original film
Pierce Brosnan played role both as an actor and as producer of film. I wonder is he the same in real life as his hero in film?
Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) is a finance geek, acute and lucky man. Moreover he is fond of art and administers charity. What else should one want? Sensory acuity! One day there was a thievery of the masterpiece of Monet from art gallery - first impressionist work in history, which costs 100 million bucks (Filming took place throughout New York City, near to Metropolitan Museum of Art). And it was not ordinary crime. It was extravagant thievery with Trojan horse (sic!), East European robbers (I thought about the Russian trace (I’ve heard “Russian”) but…) and usage of new technologies.
Thieves could close the exhibition despite of Crown presence (they didn't know that he was who hired them)! Actually it's good job. For cleaning (respectful attitude to work!) Do you remember the question about trust? Mr. Crown allows people not only to trust to him but he allows himself to trust people
And he was right. He knew that it was going something wrong. He knew much more! When some chase happened, Mr. Crown allowed stealing a piece of art.
And he - Mr. Crown - found the worthy adversary in Catherine Banning (Rene Russo)! Catherine Banning - investigator of insurance company which was responsible for the painting.
She was invited to investigate this case. And not only adversary. He found an attractive woman by all means!
Thomas liked to play and she liked how Thomas played. Of course they couldn’t pass by each other.
One day she said to him “men make women messy”. She had been caught by his charm. And as psychiatrist said - She won't know what she's lost until it's gone…
Ah, Thomas, he was so smart and kind that he return the stolen picture in original way. I can’t tell how it was. You should watch it without assistance.

I have said nothing about the Detective Michael McCann… Denis Leary played this role ok. That’s all

And finally we may learn a new knowledge about Monet - he painted on the canvas several times - for example, Dogs at Carts! Watch it!
