River’s Explanations

River led Mal to the couches next to the galley. Everyone was hard at work, so the area was clear. They sat down, and Mal continued to hold her hand, stroking it gently with his thumb.

“Captain…”

“Just call me Mal, if ya gonna let me court ya.”

“Mal,” she blushed, “She should have told you when you told her she was mei li.”

“Don’t matter. Y’r tellin’ me now.”

“Jayne has been teasing and playing with River for some time now. She has seen his eyes dilate and his heartbeat grow faster when she is in the room. She has observed the chills whenever they touch. Makes her feel like a real girl. She likes his admiration of her, ever since he saw her defeat the Reavers on Miranda.”

“River, I know I don’t give ya chills like Jayne does, but I can promise ya I’d protect ya.”

“Chills are unquantifiable. Jayne has flirted with me touched me accidentally on purpose, and has kissed me. Chills occur now when we’re together, in anticipation of the next touch.”

“River, I don’t need to know the details.”

“You are green and red.”

“What d’ya mean?”

“I see green for jealousy and red for anger.”

“How about this?” Reaching around her waist he breathed against her neck till her skin shuddered and was spotted with goosebumps.

“Definite chills,” River grinned, and pulled his head up into a kiss.

He pulled her closer and enjoyed the open mouthed kissing she must have learned from Jayne.

“More colours. Green for jealousy and red for passion. Lots of chills.” She shivered.

“Ya cold, baby girl?”

“Quite warm enough, thank you. Not a girl but a woman. Would like to be your bao-bei, for a while.”

“Not forever?”

“Time limit has not been quantified. For one of you, it will be transitory, for the other it will be permanent for as long as we are both alive.”

“Lil Albatross,” he nuzzled along her jaw, pressing kisses along a path back to her mouth.

“This is a good pet name. Albatross is a good luck symbol for the boat. She wishes to be your good luck and your hope. Trust and believe again, Captain Mal.”

He pulled back. “What will ya call me?”

“Captain Mal is appropriate. Captain Daddy is no longer correct for a potential spouse.”

He drew her into another kiss, her skin trembling at each touch and kiss. “Baby!” he whispered.

“Mal!” she sighed back.

“Jayne?” River was getting frustrated. She had explained everything to Mal and was now looking for Jayne everywhere.

She walked down to the engine room, to see if Kaylee had seen him.

“Just tighten it up there. That’s right. Thanks Jayne, yer a life saver,” Kaylee said as she pressed at kiss on Jayne’s cheek.

“Ya welcome, lil Kaylee.”

River felt herself prickling with jealousy.

“River,” Kaylee beamed.

“Kaylee, I was looking for J...”

“Ya found me now, River girl,” he guided her out onto the walkway, his hand in the small of her back.

River shivered at his intimate touch. “She has been looking for you for exactly 36 minutes, 22 seconds. Precious minutes wasted.”

“I’ll make ‘em up ta ya,” he nuzzled her neck, “Thought ya’d be longer with Mal.”

“Took exactly the right amount of time needed.”

“Sorry, bao-bei. I know ya wanted ta find me, but Kaylee needed a hand, and I’m her assistant.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck, “You are a good man.”

“Not many people would agree with you.”

“Then they’re blind. You are a good man, and she wants to spend time with you.”

“Ya wanna go ta ma bunk?” he asked, holding out his hand.

“Don’t think that Shepherd Book or Mal would find that appropriate.”

“Sure Mal wouldn’t, but we’re adults. We can do what we want with the time we spend together.”

“She is unsure.” River held herself back from following him.

“Why? Don’t’cha want ta spend time alone with me?”

“Of course. Lots of chills, very pleasurable.”

“Real pleasurable,” he growled into her hair.

“You will stop if she says no?”

“I’ll stop honey, but if I tell ya it’s ya last chance to stop, you hafta say no then, or you’ll make me real unhappy.”

“All pumped up, no place for release,” River blushed as she teased him.

“River Tam! Ya bin lookin’ inta my head again? I done told ya, it’s no place fer a well brought up girl like you.”

“Just peeked around the edges. Thoughts get too loud to block them out.”

“I’ll stop, darlin’, if ya ax me to.”

“Then I’ll come to your bunk with you.”

Jayne grinned as he led her by the hand to his bunk.
