There was a slew of decent thrillers/crime dramas on TV with some fine performances - Murder, Accused, Whitechapel, Inspector George Gently (why is there such a lack of GG slash???), Line of Duty, Secret State (tho' Rupert Graves was wasted in it tho' he does look damn fine in a suit), The Town (another Sherlock actor - this time Andrew Scott), Silk, The Fear (which was a bit crap tho' Harry Lloyd did pop up looking v.pretty), and Inside Men.
Also period dramas - I actually liked Upstairs, Downstairs (even tho' it did have bonkers plotlines/characters) - I was cross with Downton Abbey for killing off major characters and underdeveloping others (like Branson and Thomas - now I'm thinking there should be Branson/Thomas slash *bad jaynedoll*). I quite liked The Bletchley Circle and would happily see another series of it. I'm also probably one of the few people who actually liked Pan Am - it had the most gorgeous retro styling and completely bonkers plotlines. I also loved Series 2 of The Hour - I wonder if they will do another series. And I was pleased because Channel 4 showed Saving the Titanic which featured a couple of Primeval actors, Ciaran Mcmenamin and Jonathan Byrne.
Misfits S4 was a big letdown unfortunately and Switch had its moments but suffered from an uneven tone which at times made it seem more like a children's TV series rather than a post-watershed drama. Skins ended with its sixth series (tho' I have heard they're supposed to be doing a couple of specials this year) - I like it but the problem is I find the acting very uneven and there are some characters I am less interested in/don't like as much as others. Series 2 of Lip Service either killed off/wrote out the main characters but still managed to hold my interest by developing some of the secondary characters - I dunno if they'll get a 3rd series tho'.
Series 2 of The Walking Dead got off to a slow start but I ended up enjoying it so I hope Channel 5 hurry up and show Series 3.
I also really liked The Hollow Crown (the Shakespeare plays of Richard II, Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, and Henry V) especially Tom Hiddleston and the whole way they'd done it so it was more of a historical film than a theatrical production. (I bet TH gets a BAFTA nomination for it). I also expect to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall get nominations for their work in Parade's End which I thought was outstanding - I always say I came for Benedict Cumberbatch but ended up staying for Rebecca Hall - I thought her performance as Sylvia was amazing. And we also got to see Rupert Everett as well.
I also loved Homeland and thought Damian Lewis and Claire Danes did a great job with that but I'm not sure how they're going to carry it on for a third series without stretching credibility to breaking point.
Series 2 of Sherlock was one of my favourite programmes of recent years - great performances all round and I can't wait to see how they carry it on for Series 3. I don't mind Elementary but I don't think it has quite the verve/sparkle of Sherlock - it's OK as a routine police drama but I wish they hadn't traded on the Sherlock connection because I don't think they pull it off as well as UK Sherlock does.
I enjoyed this series of Dr Who a lot more than the previous one so I'd still like to see more variety in the companions.
Also Treasure Island was good fun mainly due to Eddie Izzard doing a fantastic job as Long John Silver.
Also Being Human managed to reinvent itself once again - I was dubious about them getting another ghost/werewolf/vampire trio and losing the original trio but they managed to pull it off brilliantly. Mark Gatiss made a fabulous villain, Damien Molony was brilliant as Hal and I have another OTP in Hal/Cutler - altho' I am still massively pissed off that they killed off Cutler, do not kill the pretty ones *g*
