Top 2000

Nov 21, 2007 14:43

I've just put together my top 10 for the annual Top 2000 of Radio 2, a public radio station that targets the elderly (30+). They gave us, listeners, all the options, out of which we were to select our favourites. Here are mine (in random order):

Radiohead
Fake plastic trees
Arcade fire
Wake up
Cure
A forest
David Bowie
Ashes to ashes
Muse
Bliss
Nirvana
About a girl
Pearl Jam
Black
Pixies
Where is my mind?
Smiths
Bigmouth strikes again
U2
I will follow
Note the absence of female, black, domestic ánd classic (<1980's) artists. Lord knows I've tried to include them, but Jeruzalem by Anouk (a Dutch female with a throat), Rehab by Amy Winehouse (she's a black female, right?) and the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band just didn't make the cut.

I've said this before, and I'm happy to copy that: Am I glad Radio 2 gave me the opportunity to pick some decent bands! Year by year Queen's Bohemian Rapsody is voted best song ever, followed by golden oldie Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf. So, you can imagine how eager I am to add something worth listening to.
