So, I got a 'How Clean is Your House' DVD from Netflix. When I added it to my queue, I thought it was going to be a learn-how-to-declutter kind of show. I didn't realize it was a rescue-people-from-their-own-filth kind of show. It's a little frightening to see what some of these houses look like. Even more frightening was the second episode, 'Cat Puke Lady', featured a woman that I went to college with. I didn't know her well, she was a friend of a friend, but I knew her 10 years ago. So weird.
The show does have some good tips for cleaning. I've been loathe to use harsh cleaners in our bathtub, because that's where Lucien soaks. I learned that if you've got tough soap scum, you can get rid of it using baking soda and lemon juice. Is your microwave caked with food that has splattered? Fill a microwave safe bowl with water and add a couple slices of fresh lemon. Then microwave it for 1-5 minutes. The steam will soften the caked on food, and the lemon will help to deodorize (if your microwave smells).
Thankfully, even though we're cluttered, our house is spotless compared to these places. But I still think these are some good cleaning tips. Also, Kim and Aggie are hysterical. These proper British ladies make me laugh.
Edit: Additionally, I had no idea that even if you used a mattress cover it's a good idea to vacuum your mattress occasionally. I guess it makes sense, and I'm trying not to feel too guilty for never doing it before.
