Himitsu by Higashino Keigo

I'm not exactly sure what genre this one falls into... suspense maybe?

Basically, the story is about a man whose wife and daughter both get injured in a bus crash, the wife dies and the daughter lives. But when the daughter wakes up out of her coma, it isn't her speaking, but her mother. The novel is mainly about how the protagonist and his wife/daughter deal with this situation.

It explores all the issues surrounding this turn of events, and I think that the characters are well written and realistic. It makes for an interesting read!

At 450 or so pages it's quite long, but I didn't get bored of it. I did, however, not find the story particularly gripping. There weren't really any points when I really wanted to know what happened next, and I didn't feel immensely attached to the characters.

I think I might have to stop reading 東野圭吾 books, because everything that I've read since 手紙 has been a bit disappointing! I think that if it was your first 東野圭吾 book it would be a good one to choose though!

Has anybody else read this? Any thoughts?

moderate difficulty, "kono misuterii ga sugoi!" ranking, 東野圭吾
