It all depends on the student's preference and your preference. I don't think you wanna spend 2 hours commuting to their house. Also, there might be some safety concerns with that. I haven't done it yet, but I would think I would want to tutor in a semi-public place.
And, if you have connections (or if you know anyone who wants private tutoring from you) you don't really have to go get that permit. Unfortunately for me, my school advertises some private tutoring jobs, but they won't hook you up unless you get the permit. :(
I STILL haven't gotten my postcard from the office yet. I called them a few days ago, and they said if I don' have it another week, I should call again. So it looks like about 1 month is standard to get your permit.
I'm thinking of trying to look for some people online who want private tutoring lessons. Seriously, I want $$$$$$. Or, rather, I want ¥!:\
Ah, I see. That is very true. There's a school that I've been looking into that isn't as shady as a AEON or NOVA that I found out through an interview with a DJ over there. Looks respectable so if I get accepted to ICU, I'll talk with them for part time after I go through the hoops and hurdles for that permit x_o.
I understand! One of my friends who's currently in Osaka has three kids she's tutoring through. I think she got them from... I just forgot. It was in my head! Wait, I think Mysensei.com or some service like that. I have to ask her.
Do you mind if I friend you? You seem like a very interesting person :D
As for jobs you can do, you can do almost anything you want.
With a student visa, you CANNOT legally work in a hostess bar, pachinko parlor, or any jobs that are considered immoral. You can't even be a janitor at these places of sin. ;) You also can't do a job in which you distribute advertisements for immoral places.
English teaching and any kind of retail job is probably fine.
It might be considered immoral. You'd get paid more teaching anyway.
As for other stuff you can do, I've HEARD modeling is pretty popular for gaijin in Japan. It also pays pretty well. This isn't from personal experience though. I mean, I think I'm a decent lookin' American girl but it's not like I have people knocking on my door asking me to model.
Getting a job outside of teaching might be kind of hard, unless you're really good at Japanese. I would actually like to work at a convenience store that's literally like 100 steps away from my house. But I'm not confident in my language abilities, so I haven't even tried.

Wow, that long? Thanks for explaining me that process... I know I would have been confused if I tried to figure it out myself.
Also, would one go to the students house to tutor or would they come to the dorm?

Yeah, that's what I heard too. I dunno if they would want someone like me, I'm not the " American image ". lol, I'm what you call a Hisblackanese.
Yeah, my Japanese isn't good enough to work anywhere but teaching. Hopefully by 2nd or 3rd year I'll be able to hone my skills.
Also, are you 4 year student there or are you One year regular?
