As the freezing rain starts hitting the windows, I decided to work on an entry for the A&S this weekend. There is a category for things silk. At first I thought - yea! I've done bunch recently with silk embroidery. Then the uh oh moment - most of that has been given away as Queen's tokens or other gifts. I remembered
baron_rorik's Investiture garb - the undertunic is silk with silk embroidery. Good - all I have to do is the fix-up I've intended since I was in the mad rush for completion - take the embroidered slips off, and reattach by hand. Also adjust sleeves so that the sleeves end where the embroidery does.
Today was telework day, so I used the extra time we got for being dismissed early to tackle part of the largest pile of clean laundry in existence (I know *you* think that *yours* is larger, but let's just let it go). I felt I earned the hand work break. But while I was folding, I started thinking about my problem creating items that are not supportable by historical evidence. I think I've decided that I can wrap my mind around some items which exist only in the SCA/history interface. Such things as heraldic designs on items that were never decorated that way. To do so, I need to use incarnations of the designs which *are* found in that era. As an example, I have stated I need more baronial garb. I don't want to wear the arms on my chest. So I'm intending a viking apron dress in blue with viking ships with red and white sails done in the style of a bronze artifact. A whole little fleet sailing around the hem, with drekkar heads around the top band. Should say Storvik without the laurel wreath. At least I hope so. I'll be looking for more ideas along this line.
I also am working on the Pentathalon in a Single Piece entry - which will make its appearance at *next* KASF. The spinning, dyeing, embroidering, and creating the item needed an additional element, and right now it's looking like making the needle. I'm sending poor
baron_rorik to a class on this at Gulf Wars to bring back knowledge. I want to come up with another element or two if something falls through. I've gotten some feedback on this already.
Now to start the renovations!
