COLLINS doesn't need a # as ironically it's good also in TWL.
Good news is that I can confirm for the TO July main event the weekend after next. Unfortunately, I have some unavoidable work commitments on the Friday so I cannot make the Early Bird. Looking forward to it - I haven't studied anywhere near enuf, but I'll see what happens. It'll be fun to go to Canada, play scrabble and see family.
I notice that a one day Collins tourney has sprung up in California for the same weekend as the Toronto Collins. It already has more players than the Toronto tournament. I didn't realise that California was such a CSW hotbed! If I'm right, none of the signed up players have a NASPA Collins rating and as it's club rated that would mean essentially everyone is going to have more or less the same Collins rating after the tourney as their TWL rating. It seems strange that starting Collins ratings don't reflect players' full experience with the lexicon - though I acknowledge that CBB is super-highly rated in WESPA and Peter has played in Worlds.
That previous sentence sounded a bit negative ... Just to stress, I don't really have a negative view of this - it's just a weird quirk of the rating system and where we're at with two dictionaries living side by side. On the contrary, love to see more Collins getting played - hope everyone enjoys it.
