A plea, a name and a song, this song is another political song which, despite being against the rules, it popular this Eurovision. This song is about a baby that was born to a refugee while the mother was on a rescue boat coming in to dock in Sicily. A first person story taken from the Baby’s point of view inspired by a tweet, this song has slowly been coming into favour in the last month giving France hope for their first Eurovision win in 41 years. If it won it would not be the first overtly political song to win.

Mercy overwhelmingly won the public vote with some 29 points on its nearest competitor. The jury vote, which was a bit tighter, had this song 3rd. Lisandro Cuxi with Eva was favoured by the Jury but came third with the public and ultimately finished second overall. Both songs were good Eurovision songs though Lisandro probably would have put on a more Eurovision performance. With the right framing Madame Monsieur’s performance may turn out to be dramatic and beautiful. Neither is a winner though.

With probably the longest Bio for any act this in this year’s Eurovision, the French delegation appear to know how to feed the hungry Eurovision fans. With information on the group, their artistic influences, their new album, and motivation they appear to understand the walk they must walk. Hopefully that also translated to an understanding on what is needed for the presentation. In a few days we will know for sure.

In an era of disco, France went to Eurovision with "L'oiseau et l'enfant" and won. With a song about a Bird and the child, it is appropriate that the dress was a baby-poo colour… but if it wins, who cares.
