Equinox is a band formed specifically for Eurovision comprising of 3 Bulgarian artists and two American ring-ins. One of the ring-ins, Trey Campbell, is also one of the composers while another, Johnny Manuel, is working on his solo album with the composers of Bones after making the semis in America’s Got Talent Last year. One of the Bulgarians, Zhana Bergendorff, was the winner of the second season of Bulgaria’s X Factor in 2013, so the Bulgarian Talent may be better than the ring-ins.
This song was written by the same song writing conglomerate that wrote
Austria’s entry this year, Bulgaria’s Entry last year (which finished second) as well as a number of other Eurovision songs in the last few years. They have yet to win Eurovision and it does not appear they will this year even though this is a strong song.
This song has been favoured with the bookmakers for the last couple month’s right up until rehearsals started in the last week. They are now less favoured. There is an ethereal flavour in this song that needs to come across in the performance and if they can iron out the creases and get the performance right, this could be good. Signs are not good though.
Bulgaria’s entry last year was half a ring-in. The Russian born Kristian Kostov got to Bulgaria through his father’s birth. He finished second at Eurovision. The presentation was good, and Bulgaria is improving in presentation but they need more improvement. A lot more improvement…
