So just before 2pm today on my way to give a guitar lesson, I was given other plans. A van was making a left turn up ahead of me, so the woman driving in front of me came to a short stop, as did I. The woman behind us didn't stop quick enough and hit me and pushed me into the car in front of me. No one hurt, however my car took the brunt of the damage. All of our stories were the same, so the lady behind me was essentially at fault, she's going to be ticketed and her insurance will have to take care of everything. My car was driveable and I was told I could drive it home as long as I stayed off highways, and just went home with it. It made it home.
I'll find out tomorrow when I can get the woman's insurance info from the police what I have to do. Hopefully it'll get me a rental in the meantime and a doctor's checkup as well.
I already made contact with my insurance and did my part there just to cover my butt. The bulk of this though is in the hands of the insurance company of the woman who hit me. I wonder if they'll total it or try and fix it. It is 19 years old now, and a rare car in itself, so parts are VERY hard to find for it. The bluebook for it private party in "fair" condition is 1500ish...so it's a tough call. Whichever way it went I wouldn't care. If they total it, I'll buy it back for parts, part out some of it and junk the rest. I'd probably come out pretty ahead on that deal financially (mind you this car was only 700 bucks 2 years ago). If they fix it up and make it driveable again, it'll likely be in better shape than it was before. That would be fine by me too as I love this car despite all it's issues.
I guess I'm lucky that this happened in what's generally a "snobby" area (Livingston) and that everyone involved was insured and whatnot. I was definitely the odd one out with the 19 year old car and long hair. The vehicle in front of me was an '07 Acura RDX suv with a 40 something professional looking lady, and the vehicle that hit me was a pretty new Chrysler mini van driven by your typical soccer mom also in her 40s.
This also gives me an excuse to get the Sentra finished ASAP....as the thing holding me back has been time, but with no transportation, I got nothing but time :) I also got nothing for income until I get it running so.....yeah, that's pretty high on the priority list now.
That's my excitement......by the way...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
(I'll post a more "what ELSE is going on" type blog shortly....promise :)
Here is the aftermath:
