* Six-monthly review in work. Was essentially told 'You're one of the best people we have. Keep it up.'

So, current assignment is to spec out something I'd like to code. I love books.

I especially love used books, when they have just the right amount of wear.

The covers aren't pristine, the spines are a little wrinkled, there are scuffs around the edges, but overall they're in good shape.

The pages are just slightly discoloured. And they have that lovely scent about them - not freshly-bleached paper, but paper ( Read more... )

To be quite honest, I could have done without the ending of Perdido Street Station, given my current mental state. The rest of the book? A masterpiece - engaging, vibrant, perfectly paced, convoluted enough to maintain interest without being twisted beyond all reckoning, steeped in a fascinating mix of thaumaturgy, steampunk-meets-Gibson dystopia ( Read more... )
