So my car didn't start again this morning. I wasn't really expecting it to since it was still below freezing (though warmer than it has been in about 3 days) but I tried as I was waiting downstairs for Jacob to pick me up for work. My stint on the cash register was boring but fairly painless and I got fed. Today was the catered lunch for getting high marks on the store quiz we took a couple of months ago - chicken (fried and herb baked - I had baked then filched a fried breast to bring home), a wild rice casserole, classic green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and some fantastic rolls from Golden Corral. A high carb meal meant to make your blood sugar sit up and take notice. Plus there was this triple chocolate cake they bring in - decadent and really deserving of a vial of insulin just for it (that's what I had), plus Marquetta's fantastic brownies and a plethora of cookies (2 brownies accompanied the chicken breast into my bag).
Jacob gave me a ride home and my car started. So I made a run to the library to pick up a stack of inter-library loan books I got through the World Cat (and returned a pile). I went to 3 different places looking for Heat (for the fuel line) and found nothing but a gaping hole in the shelves. Fourth time was the charm. So I chugged it into my tank and filled up then came home. It took me 2 trips to get everything upstairs. We're supposed to possibly get freezing drizzle in the wee hours of the morning then 3-5 inches tomorrow night while the temps plummet into the negative. I covered the windshield with my nifty magnetic cover to make windshield cleaning easier. I'll go down sometime on Sunday and try to start the car and clear off the snow if it does start. I'm so glad I don't have to leave the apartment until the asscrack of not-yet-dawn on Monday when the temps are supposed to be hovering barely and zero. If my car doesn't start I'll be going out even earlier (before 2 am) to catch a ride with the stocking crew chief. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
On the weirder side I had a lady come through my line this morning. An older lady. She looked perfectly ordinary. When I said "You have a good day," she replied with "Merry Christmas" quite cordially. Then she stopped and gave me the stink-eye and said, "None of that 'Happy Holidays' stuff! This is the Big Guy's Birthday and those that don't pay due respect to the Big Guy's birthday...well, you know where they're going!" I guess this was her way of spreading the loving word of Christ. Duly warned I wished her a Merry Christmas and after she left I looked over and saw the next customer in line giving me 'Big Eyes of Shock'. When I was done with her she leaned over and said "I don't think Jesus would mind if you told me Happy Holidays." So I did.
So, a defiant HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you all!
P.S. Please don't let my 'optimistic' mood be for naught.
