It's always gratifying to get the odd 'kudo' notification from AO3. It's usually for Gravity, sometimes for my 'Connections' stories (both Fast & Furious) but sometimes it's for one of my two J2 fic, occasionally for my Black Hawk Down fic, and once in a blue moon for my Wanted fic (a fandom based on a short lived TV show of less than a season that most people have never even heard of). I've never been a prolific writer though I have always been a prolific fanfic dreamer.
My fandom of choice for fanfic is still, even after all these years - Supernatural (usually the RPS side). And I still enjoy the hell out of Supernatural (the TV show as well as the fic). Those of you who've followed SPN from the beginning, watching it struggle with ratings the first 2-3 years, did you ever imagine it would still be going strong into the 12th season? I'm liking this season so far. I wish we'd see a little more of Mary. She is totally BAMF. I'm enjoying the Cas & Crowley show and Rowena's more multidimensional character (not just evil and totally self-serving - although mostly).
Teen Wolf: I like the new (and I guess final season) so far but it has truly brought home to me that just about anyone including Tyler Posey could disappear from the cast and I would still have interest in the show, with the exception of Dylan O'Brien. The 3 episodes with no Stiles were a little flat. I still read TW fanfic occasionally, too. I'm ruining my eyes with a particularly long series by KouriArashi called 'The Sum of Its Parts' that ended at 16 parts and a staggering 1,199,240 words. I don't know if it will keep my attention through to the end but I'm on part 4 with over 186,000 words behind me and I'm still engaged.
Generation Kill is a recurring favorite. I just rewatched the series last month and I enjoyed re-reading favorite fic along with it.
The Walking Dead has never been a fanfic favorite of mine unless it crosses over with another fandom but the show has always been a favorite. That said I'm 5 weeks behind in my watching. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a fantastic Negen, a little too into his part in some ways. He is fucking creepy! I knew the season premiere would be intense but it really bummed me out. I watched the next 2 because a guy at work gave me a little bit of a rundown of the contents but I just haven't been able to get back into the mood for it. I'm too invested in the long term characters and it's just too depressing for me right now. Probably after the new year but before the second part of season begins again.
Madam Secretary is a favorite of mine. I made the comment before that for a totally apolitical person some of my favorite shows have been about politics. I have a feeling after the presidential election I'll be firmly in denial mode and when it comes to who squats in the Oval Office and contain my political knowledge to the purely fictional. Ostrich mode at its finest!
Has anyone been watching the new SCFY show Aftermath? I'm really enjoying it though I'm not rabid about it. I think part of my enjoyment is tied with the discussions I have about it (plus several other shows) with a guy at work. I'm not really interested in fanfic based on the show characters but of course I see plenty of opportunity for crossovers with Supernatural which for me is the Little Black Dress of fandom and goes with damn near every other setting, either SPN of SPNRPS.
Viking is back and it almost seems like another show with familiar characters. So much time has passed since the end of the first half of season 4 (I had no idea this was the 'same season' until I saw the episode numbers). Why isn't this a whole new season? Doesn't matter though. I'm loving Lagertha as always and I hope she obliterates Aslaug. I'm just wondering if Josefin Asplund's (loved her in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo') Astrid will end up a casualty of what I read described as 'bury your gays'. I hope not although I've always harbored a secret (though admittedly probably forlorn) yearning that Ragnar and Largetha would get back together. I loved them as a couple. The verdict is still out on Aslaug's sons. They're kind of on the asshole side to one degree or another.
As for my own writing, I still toy around with various plots. I love building the stories in my mind but I can't seem to be able to sit my ass down in front of the computer to write them. Copious and detailed notes are about all I can pull out of myself.
I've never watched Black Sails. I don't know why because I was rather excited about it before it premiered, but I haven't tuned in. But I keep telling myself I really need to.
So what else am I missing? What's your favorite show? Fanfic or not.
Ooh! The snow has started a few hours early. I thought it would all fall after dark and I'd miss the show. Pretty! (since I don't have to be out in it)
fannish glee,
