When I screwed up my shoulder on the last day of
spasticat's visit I only had 1 more day left of vacation. That wasn't enough time to recuperate; I had to miss 3 additional days of work. I went back on Thurs and my shoulder held up better than I was expecting. Unfortunately that little trip and fall and the funky way I had to sleep sometimes didn't do my right hip any good. Also, I'd pulled a muscle in the bottom of my left foot. Thurs and Fri at work were not fun. My shoulder might have been fine but damn near everything below the waist was totally fubar. After the first day back I hurt so bad I could barely walk up the stairs to my apartment. The second day was a little better. But when I woke up late yesterday (that would actually be Tues) afternoon I was hurting. My entire evening consisted of sitting on the couch and waiting until I could take my next handful of ibuprofen. And I do mean handful. It wasn't my hip, although that still bothered me a little, and it wasn't my shoulder, it was my entire body (especially my right side) feeling like someone had worked me over with a big stick - some really deep tissue pain that sometimes felt like it involved the nerves. It's days like that that make me wonder if I suffer from fibromyalgia. I tried looking up the symptoms and while some of them fit, others are completely absent. And while I've had this kind of day before they are - thankfully - rather dispersed. I think it's something I'll definitely have to take up with my new doctor whenever I get around to making an appointment with the new clinic since mine closed down. (I'm really going to miss Dr. McCandless. She was, hands down, the best doctor I've ever dealt personally with.)
I finally gave up early Wed morning and took a vicodin and a double dose of melatonin to try and get some sleep. Sleep was fairly good if still abbreviated because my shoulder stiffens up to the point where I have to get up and move around before my desire for sleep is satiated. Luckily that amount of time keeps increasing. Last night it was over 6 hours. I'm hoping for at least 7 tonight (today). The good news? Those painful symptoms were gone when I got up.
So tonight I managed to make some really lovely flounder florentine (fresh spinach and flounder with a light creamy sauce and a crunchy little topping of bread crumbs and Parmesan. Then I whipped up a big batch of chili to take for lunches this week. Nice and spicy. I also managed to make a lovely batch of foot cream called Ballerina Butter. It feels so damn good on my poor old callused feet. Oh! And earlier today I went out and got my hair cut - way passed due! I used to go to the place at the center in front of my apartment complex but then they closed down several months ago. Then last week I noticed a new business opened in the same place so I made an appointment. Cassie had worked at the shop for a few weeks before I started going there and when she saw it was for rent she decided to give it a shot. She sold her townhome and moved into my apartment complex and really jazzed the place up. Business must be pretty darn good already because I had to wait several days for an appointment opening. She's a lovely lady who gives a nice haircut and since she knew that I used to be a customer of the old place and was used to paying less (last shop only charged $18 and Cassie charges $35) she told me I could pay the old amount. I split the difference a little and wrote the check for $25.
Plus, I've been wanting to watch the new show Madame Secretary with Tea Leoni so I got a hold of the first episode and loved it. It reminds me a great deal of one of my all time favorite shows The West Wing. I've watched the first 3 episodes and I'll have time for the last 3 before bed time. If you haven't watched it give it a try.
So now I'm going to have a little bowl of chili and watch episode #4.
Here's hoping this week goes better than the last one.
