Work was rather mundane this week - no screeching harpies and drunk guys trying on condoms. I did come back from a 15 min break the other day to hear people in the fitting rooms. I called out that the fitting rooms were closed and a woman open the big one and said with big eyed innocence - 'Oh, this door was unlocked' about the same time her 10-11 year old daughter opened the one next to it. #1 - No it wasn't unlocked. I tested them all myself when I came on duty. And #2 - If the big one was unlocked how did the one next to it magically open? I hate dressing room doors with big gaps at the bottom. They're stupid. What I'd really like to do is be around the first time that woman wonders why her daughter lies to her. It's because she sees you do it and thinks that's the way it's done, you stupid bitch!
Ahem!
I've been struggling a sinus infection for a while now and I think I'm losing. Yesterday I resorted to adding 3 drops of tea tree oil to my nasal infusion and did it burn like a motherfucker! After the first squirt I had to empty half the bottle and refill with plain water and a little more of the other ingredients. I make my own buffered saline solution with 4 parts non-iodine table salt to 1 part baking soda and keep it in a jar in the bathroom. I also add 6-8 drops of glycerin sometimes if my nasal passages are feeling a bit raw. Today I only added 1 drop of tea tree oil and I could still feel it...in a whole cup of water! Unfortunately it leaves the faint scent of old cat urine in my nose for half an hour or so. Not pleasant in the least but if it curtails this damn sinus condition I'll put up with it. I need to check and see if the store still carries Alkalol. It was recommended by a doctor as an additive to saline spray. It's a combination of essential oils and it's a mucus solvent. It can also be used to gargle. It's pretty great stuff but unfortunately even though it's not a controlled substance it's usually carried behind the pharmacy counter which isn't open when I'm in the store. Maybe I can get one of the ladies to grab me a bottle and stick it behind the fitting room counter with a note for me.
Yesterday evening when I woke up it seemed a tad stuffy in the apartment. I keep the a/c set on 76 unless I'm up and really moving around and I sleep warm so I wasn't immediately concerned but it turns out the a/c really wasn't working. Luckily it was comfortable enough to open up the apartment and even got pretty cool last night. But today the heat and the humidity are on the rise and there isn't a breath of air moving outside. Luckily the a/c has decided to start working again. I'll see what it's like later this afternoon after I wake up.
I just had a really satisfying brunch. Twelve tater tots (not just 10 because that's a single serving and I wanted to feel indulgent on my day off), some diced, smoked ham, a diced medium hot Anaheim pepper from my balcony, sauteed and then scrambled with a couple of eggs and everything covered with a sprinkling of shredded cheddar then topped with a diced tomato and some minced garlic chives (both from my balcony). Delicious.
I cooked the tater tots in my new toaster oven! My toaster went belly up and I've been considering a toaster oven so I splurged $30 on one. I love not having to heat up my apartment with the oven for a handful of tater tots.
My garden is going pretty well. I know I keep promising pics, I've set the camera next to my computer to remind myself to try and get the two to talk to one another when I get up. We've been getting tons of rain so I don't really have to water that often right now. My store-bought tomato plant is producing very well. The two I began from seed not so much. The little green sausage tomato (it's a paste-type) had a nice handful of little oblong tomatoes but they all wound up with blossom end rot! Same thing with most of my lemon tree tomatoes. I'll get a bag of lime and treat them. Hopefully that'll help. My little Red Robin cherry tomato is also very productive and those little guys are quite tasty. I just got another handful off this morning. I think I have an okra plant growing but to tell you the truth I'm not totally sure. I've never grown them. We'll see. The 3 cucumber plants look magnificent but I've only gotten a couple of bigger cukes (not as tasty as last year) and handful of the little miniatures - nice for snacking. Something ate the shit out of my spinach - it's basically a bunch of little, tender green twigs sticking up out of the dirt - so I'll try again in the fall when the bug population dwindles. There's plenty of herbs - thyme, spicy oregano, basil and garlic chives. The fern leaf dill is up but still pretty puny and the little cumin plant is struggling. Oh! And I have little purple snap beans! Not a ton but I should have a nice little meal of freshly steamed beans about this time next week.
I took about a 3 week hiatus from tumblr. I just felt like it was consuming way too much time. So I went in today and pared down a lot of blogs that I just found myself scrolling past and cut them out. I can always add them back in later. So I spent an enjoyable hour this morning mostly reblogging cute animal pics. *G*
As far as tv watching, I'm enjoying the return of Teen Wolf and Falling Skies and I'm quite enjoying the Last Ship. There's also Defiance (which I came back to from last year) and Dominion (which I'd like better if Alex-the-Chosen-One wasn't such a whiner) on ScyFy. This season is a apocalypse whores playground. I'm also watching what will be the final season of True Blood. Fairly decent so far.
Whelp, the bed is crooning to me to come and sprawl upon it. And the a/c seems to still be working (it's gone on and off several times doing what it's supposed to do). So sleep-time for me and I'll try and get those balcony pics up later tonight.
