It's always something...bitch, bitch, bitch

I got pretty much between 9-10 hours sleep last night. I was in bed by 10 but watched a little TV and read until around midnight. I woke up a couple of times to use the restroom and had a couple of 'almost' leg cramps that worked out before I got out of bed. So I actually feel deliciously rested. Unfortunately, staying in bed so long has taken a toll on my lower back and hips. I'm pretty much as stiff as a rusted hinge. But that'll work out a lot easier than walking around feeling like a zombie for a week.

And a well, shit moment. Usually I wait a little late in the planting season and wind up paying about $10 for a larger tomato plant, but this year I bought them early, planting them a little larger so they'd grow for a good head start. They were beautiful! I got home yesterday to find that the wind had blown them over. One just tipped over on it's side but one tumbled completely off and snapped in two. That was the Early Girl and it was filled with blossoms. That makes me really sad. :( I guess I'll plant my lonely tomato today and then go spen the bucks on a big one later.

I've also come to the conclusion that the broccoli isn't going to form heads. Disappointing but I've been discovering that I can using the leaves just like any other greens. I'll just cut out the stems, chop and simmer in chicken stock with a little bacon, onion and garlic. Easy save. My bok choy is ready to use, too, so stir fry this week! But tonight...grilled lamb chops and this easy version of spanikopita I've been looking forward to this all week.

Now, I'm going to spend the bulk of the weekend trying to get some writing done.

eating, balcony garden, container garden, sleep habits, leg cramps, cooking
