I had my 6 month doctor's appointment last Tues and the doc called with the test results earlier. She was very pleased and I was a little surprised. The results were almost identical to last time despite my struggling to eat right the last few months.
My A1C (over-all blood sugar level) was 5.9, same as last time which is very good. My cholesterol and triglyceride levels are also very good with the exception that I'm still struggling to raise my good cholesterol a little. Just eating the right kinds of food isn't doing it so time for the fish oil capsules rich in omega-3.
The doc asked me if I were having any problems and I told her my feet were a perennial problem - not peripheral neuropathy, that's dwindled since I got my blood sugar levels a little more under control - but just the wear and tear of being overweight, being on my feet all the time and having extremely wide feet with very high arches. Another major problem is that the second toes are longer than my big toes and over the years have become hammered. Wearing shoes, even roomy shoes, pushes up my toes which forces them up and puts more pressure on the ball of my foot, causing a big, flat callus. I also walk slightly on the outsides of my feet which has cause calluses and, believe it or not, corns on the bottoms of the outer edges of my feet. I try to keep them worn down and padded with moleskin but they're still painful at times. Those thick little corn pads with the cutouts in the center to keep pressure off are just too damn expensive. I'll have to see if I can come up with something.
But when I told the doctor that if I ever won a lottery the first thing I'd do is find a good podiatrist she said the clinic has one that comes in once a month and would I like to see him? I said 'hell yes I would' so I have an appointment on Tues after work. Let's hope he can come up with some solutions, too.
And OMG the apartment smells fantastic! They had corned beefs on sale. I picked up a small one yesterday and it's been baking for 1 1/2 hrs in my tagine (best $20 I've spent in the kitchen in forever! Keeps everything so moist.) It's going to be fantastic with some fresh broccoli and some tiny roasted new potatoes. Can't wait!
