AUNTIE LYNN. No doubt. Auntie lynn would make me cookies (not that great and kind of dry, but still cookies) and be annoying, but she wouldn't play me the Block Party Remix album or whatever shit they play at Misshapes. And also, Auntie Lynn wouldn't be on coke.
I can't wait to get home from class and talk to you on the phone! More than EVER.
Refer to my livejournal for my thoughts on how awesome TAs are (or at least, can be). I think it is a really sweet relationship -- the TA-student relationship, at least from the receiving end. TAs are so nice and helpful, in my experience! And I'm sure you fit into this TA profile I have provided.
As for the alternating coloured pen proletariat note taker... oh man, I see so much of that at York. Like, this seems to dominate. I didn't expect university would be so alienating and depressing or misanthropy-inspiring.
You know, being a TA has actually been one of the most enriching experiences of my entire life.
Stef, I can't even believe how EMPTY and MINDLESS my "peers" are. Really, going to McMaster has made me a very angry person. I guess I shouldn't blame McMaster actually. I think just "humanity at large" is a better direction for my scorn! I was just SO upset and angry when I read that entry of yours about the guys in the car. The worst part is that it probably never even crossed their mind that their sort of behaviour might be ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND DISGUSTING. They probably didn't even think twice about it. But, you know, we're going to survive! One day we'll find a niche with people who are positive and don't make us want to vomit. I seriously believe that. Anyway, I hope things are good otherwise!
actually that reminds me of a girl sitting next to me at the library one day whose boyfriend was trying to help her write an essay except she didn't know what liberal meant and he was like..umm so you're studying international relations?
I'm in a class on performance art. It's the most dumbed down piece of garbage course ever. Actually the worst class I've ever taken. Every performance artist we look at the professor says something like "this artist is interested in challenging racial/gender stereotypes." It's like her mantra. Last class after our prof said "this artist is interested in challenging stereotypes of aboriginal people. His work mixes art and politics." a girl raised her hand and said "Hmm... I was just wondering, could it be true of any other performance artists that they mix politics and art? I'm just a little confused." The teacher responds: "That is a great question! Class, what do we think?" We spent the next 20 minutes pretty much naming every single work that we had seen in the entire semester and going "hmm... yeah that one could be seen as mixing politics and art too!"
Good entry, I liked the part about the coffee shop boner the best.
Is your performance class just theory/history? Last semester I took a course called "art as theory, theory as art" which is actually a secret code for doing nothing all semester. We didn't even get to the point where politics and art intersect.

Good luck with the next couple of months.
