“You should have reported this sooner,” Markus said firmly.

Aurelius managed a tight smile at what seemed to be an order, but she was quick to lift a hand and wave it away. She leaned back in the chair a little more, her platinum hair cascading over her shoulders to mostly cover her nude breasts. She crossed a bare leg over the other after a moment of Markus staring at the purple bruise on her cheek as if it were some untreatable blemish.

“Why didn’t you report this? Did you even see a doctor for this?” Markus was gesturing to the bruises from her encounter with a Type 3 M-PIV user. “You know better then to mess around with those kinds of people. They don’t see reason.”

Aurelius simply continued to smile, though it was turning more strained. “It will work in the favour of BioFuse, so I see nothing wrong with a few bruises and cuts on my lip,” she said as she again raise a hand to wave away Markus’ concerns. “I am not badly injured.”

Markus finally gave her a measuring look before flopping down into the chair he had pulled up earlier. “But you could have been.”

“No, I wouldn’t have been,” she replied and now offered a much warmer smile. “Mr. Tuesti of the WRO and Nanaki of the Cosmo Canyon were merely witnesses to the power of drugs on the disparaged, the poor, and the ignored. They must surely recognize the importance to have clean clinics, especially since I hear that, aside from mako, there are not components of M-PIV that are present in the body after death. It is simply considered mako poisoning.”

There was a silence that filled the room, and it seemed that Markus had finally seen where she was going with her previous waving. She considered things under control and that the minor injuries would make the future of BioFuse brighter because of their long-term mission.

“I still wish you would have informed someone of your injuries,” Markus said, now looking as if he were sulking. “You are very important to BioFuse, Aurelius. A hit on you is a hit on BioFuse, and you know how they like to keep things neat and proper.”

Aurelius made a small acknowledging noise and reached up to run her fingers over the swollen side of her face. “Are you going to make a formal report about this?”

Markus at least half-managed a shrug even if it was plainly uncomfortable. “I’m going to have to. You know the policies better than anyone. They are going to want to know what happened and the injuries that you suffered during the attack. They may even want to see you to make certain everything is still in working order.”

She managed a small laugh at the choice of words. “I’m hardly a breaking doll, Markus. I have lived on the streets for so long among those people. They still need so much help.”

He nodded, giving way to her words plainly. Another silence fell between them for a moment before he finally looked up and said, “have you heard the rumors in the paper?”

Aurelius raise a slight eyebrow before the ‘rumors’ came to her, and she smiled warmly. “About the ex-General of ShinRa being back? I have heard he encountered an old friend,” she said simply. “He is putting himself in a dangerous position, meaning that his arrogance over the situation hasn’t changed at all.”

Markus gave a little grin. “It also means he’s as aware of the situation as the WRO and ShinRa are. How long do you think they will play the fools?”

Rising from the chair, Aurelius walked around the room at a gentle gait, her eyes closed as she considered the situation. “We do as we have originally planned. BioFuse is still a fledgling organization compared to both ShinRa and the WRO. We are to work together for the betterment of the people, as it has always been.”

“ShinRa and the WRO will take each other down eventually,” he said simply, as if it were fact. “I think we should be most concerned about the other factions.”

“Other factions,” Aurelius asked, looking back to Markus.

“Sephiroth and AVALANCHE.”

Aurelius waved a hand in the air gently before folding them behind her bare back. “Sephiroth is easy enough,” she murmured quietly. “And AVALANCHE will not rear its ugly head again against anyone but Sephiroth. They may come to the aid of the WRO but probably only if asked to. I consider AVALANCHE a neutral faction; Mr Tuesti has to have it in him to call on them, but I don’t think his pride will allow for that just yet.”

Markus rose from his seat and dusted off his old jacket. “That aside, they have figured out what it will take to fully help everyone. It requires an artifact of old.”

“…The Black Materia?”

“Yes,” Markus said, though his expression faltered completely. “No one has even a clue where to look for it though. As far as old rumors go, it supposedly fell into the Lifestream after its power was accessed.”

Aurelius made a small sound of disappointment. If it was so important, it would be a major set-back. They couldn’t afford a set-back right about now, not when things were finally flowing smoothly. “We’ll find out its location eventually.”

“I’ll keep you informed,” Markus said and turned to go. “Keep yourself safe, will you?”

Aurelius simply smiled.
