So I had another mini interview today. I found a pancake house that's opening on the edge of downtown and they're hiring waitresses. I walked in and talked to the head chef, Charles. I told him a bit about how bad Damon's was, but the place was so much bigger and had a different dynamic. He completely agreed and was interested to hear about my coffee shop work.
I really like the place they're putting together. It looks something like a Mom and Pop Ram's Horn. There aren't very many breakfast places in DeKalb, and that's kind of a bad thing when you're a college town. Right on the edge of NIU's campus is Annie G's, which is big, but can't handle a Saturday/Sunday morning hangover rush with a combined church crowd. There's Egg Haven, which is a cute, trendy place around the corner from Walmart. And if you drive a few miles, there's the Sycamore Cafe. So there's not a lot of places where you can get a good waffle with bacon if you want it. Which is one reason why this place appeals to me, whether or not I get a job here.
Charles and his brother (or I assume his brother, they looked alike) are very enthusiastic about the place. I think that's one of the things that really has me wanting this job, even if it is just a waitress job. It's been a while since I've had a job where my bosses were excited about their own work! I haven't felt that since Suburban Bolt and the Waldo Library.
I told Charles that the only time I need off is for my wedding in March. He said he couldn't do that. I was like really? He starts laughing and said of course it was okay. He was looking for someone full time because right now all he's getting in for resumes are students who can only work weekends. So this might really work out for me. I hope it does! I could use the money and a bit of enthusiasm!
