HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARYANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait, I don't have to yell, she's in the same room.
Anywho, before I talk about the birthday, I need to finish my story. So I'm standing out near the side of the Spamalot theater waiting for the stars to come out, and the second person out is MISTER TIM CURRY!!!!!!!!!!! He walks to one side of the group, signs autographs, walks to the other side, signs, then walks to the middle and signs. He starts to turn back to the door, and I am distraught, as he missed my book. I reach out my hand as far as it will stretch, gather the last ounce of desparation I have, and in a plaintive cry, yell out, "TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM!", in the most pathetic sounding timbre my voice has ever found. He turns, walks in a straight line to me, signs my book, gives me the oddest look, turns and walks away, as the rest of the crowd watches in silence, as this weakened man lives out his dream. It was a beautiful moment.
Oh, and I met David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria too. They rule, cause they act like they have nothing better to do than entertain the masses. Class acts. And Sara Ramirez is gonna be a superstar.
So TONIGHT, I went with my sister to see her favorite band in the whole wide world play on her birthday at Madison Square Garden. The one, the only DURAN DURAN, reunited with the original lineup for the first time since 1985. Now, the first time I saw them, they played Hungry Like the Wolf, Come Undone, the Reflex, and a bunch of crap I had never heard of. This more than made up for it. They played absolutely every song I wanted to hear and more:
SONGS I HAD TO HEAR THEM PLAY:
Hungry Like the Wolf, The Reflex, Ordinary World, Come Undone, A View to a Kill, Rio
SONGS I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THEM PLAY:
Girls on Film, Notorious, Save a Prayer, Wild Boys, White Lines(cover)
White Lines was a real shocker, as it isn't even their song, but it rocks like nobody's business. It was the first song of the encore, followed by Girls on Film, a medley of disco and funk classics, and then the title track from the masterpiece album, "Rio".
It was an absolutely incredible experience, and with all the money my sister has spent on them in the past, it's only fitting that they came back to NYC on her birthday.
