Are you making a vid for me? Or are you just curious about my requests? (I love reading Dear Festividder and Dear Yuletide Writer letters!)
Dear Festividder! You are awesome! Make me something you love and I will enjoy it!
I am a fairly unsophisticated vid-watcher, so pretty much anything you do will make me go, "Ooh, shiny!" The clearer your narrative the better I will understand it, but if you just want to put some pretty clips together, I will go, "Ooh, shiny!" I like humor, I like drama, I like slash, het, and gen, and I like crossovers. (Although if you're going to do a crossover please stalk my journal to make sure I know the other fandom.) You can see my
vid recs tag to get an idea of vids I like.
I am in my late 40s and my musical taste reflects this. I do not like hip-hop or rap or bandom or, actually, much modern pop. Most of the time I have never heard of the bands that people put in their "music" status field. I would not recognize a Britney Spears song if it bit me on the butt, and the only Lady Gaga song I have ever heard is "Bad Romance", which is rather overused by now, isn't it? On the other hand, if it was popular in the 70s or 80s I probably have a soft spot for it, be it Simon and Garfunkel or Aerosmith or the Ramones. I am a big fan of Celtic folk music and sea shanties. Some of the music I listen to these days: Great Big Sea, Carbon Leaf, Vienna Teng, Joan Osborne, Emily Haines, Dar Williams, Iron and Wine, Randy Newman, Joe Jackson, Al Stewart, Richard Shindell, Barenaked Ladies, Richard and or Linda and or Teddy Thompson, Bruce Cockburn, David Wilcox, Josh Ritter, Jeffrey Focault, Lyle Lovett. I adore Lyle Lovett. I like music in foreign languages, and I like instrumentals and movie soundtrack music. You can check my 'music' tag for stuff I've uploaded to get an idea.
The Grapes of Wrath (1940) [Movie]
I particularly love the (perhaps slashy) relationship between Tom Joad and Jim Casy. But the grinding poverty, the feelings of hope and hopelessness, the struggle for survival, all of these are such great aspects of this movie. For music, something period would be awesome. But feel free to use something modern as an ironic contrast.
Murdoch Mysteries (2008) [TV]
I would love something focusing on my OTP - Murdoch/SCIENCE! Or if you want to do something with the Pendrick episodes, I sort of ship Murdock with James Pendrick. But ensemble would be lovely as well - I adore all the recurring characters, especially goofy George Crabtree.
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency [TV]
Mma Ramotswe, how are you so awesome? I am really at heart a bookverse fan, and so I would prefer focus to be on the main ensemble characters from the book - Mma Ramotswe (my favoritest!), Mma Makutsi, and Mr JLB Matekoni. For music, something upbeat and African would be ideal!
Rabbit-Proof Fence [Movie]
I would love scenery porn of the girls' journey across Australia. But if you want to focus on some other aspect of the movie (such as the horrific race relations of the time), feel free. For music, perhaps something sweeping and ethnic or instrumental?
Rome [TV]
The epic bromance of Vorenus and Pullo! Or the epic twisty manipulative scheming of Atia! Or the epic daddy issues of Brutus with respect to Julius Caesar. Er, lots of epic here, is what I'm saying.
Source Code (2011) [Movie]
The time-loopy stuff is so cool - I'd love to see something playing off the way things happen slightly differently in different iterations, along with the sort of ominous military/technology reality in the background. Although I don't really like techno or rap type stuff, I could see it working here, so you get a pass for music I wouldn't ordinarily like, if it strikes you as being perfect!
