The 33rd German Nationals. I don't think I've ever played so well in a tournament before neither do I think I've felt so strongly for a non-(1st gen)Eat Disc team before.
Christian K (and many other people who have played with me before) was right, the only problem I have is that I don't believe in myself. But something clicked during the tournament, and everything felt right. I was confident in my abilities, and most importantly, I really wanted us to win. And I think those two factors carried me through. Highlights of my game were probably two layout scores, a layout D in the endzone and I think only two mistakes over the two days. I made about four aerial layout attempts as well, all of which I was just a palm away :)
But the most amazing part of the tournament was our 3rd game on universe. Where our womens team came down to support us and suddenly the whole sideline was full of cheers. It was almost electrifying. And when we generated the block, I picked up the disc, broke to Fabian and Fabian fired it away to a streaking Ralf who proceeded to layout for the score. The whole sideline and team went wild and we all just ran up to Ralf, fist pumping and shouting/screaming for all we were worth. It was amazing.
And when we finally won our game-to-go against Dusseldorf later (whom we lost to once earlier), it was exactly the same. The whole team just running onto the pitch and hugging everyone. I guess it was pretty emotional for everyone since this was what they've been training for the whole season - to qualify for the 1st league relegation tournament*. I'm just really glad that I managed to contribute to this goal of theirs, to at least give back a little to the team that took me in.
I'm honestly sad to leave this team because its been a really long time since I've felt like I belonged somewhere. So thank you Dresden Deckels for giving this Singaporean boy a place to call home for the past three months.
*to go from one league to another, you first have to finish high enough in your respective league during Nationals, and then you'll be invited to some sort of invitational where if you finish high enough in that, you'll go to the next league.
ultimate,
