Elizabeth is such a weirdo...

Dec 19, 2021 14:42

I gave my priest his Christmas present, which included a dog toy and a gift card to a grocery store.  Such a weirdo!!!  I then had to wait for him to chat with a guy before handing it to him.  Just said, "I wanted to give this to you, Merry Christmas".  Smiled, thank you and booked it out of there!  HAHAHHA!!!

Mass.  Prior to Mass they announced...  Did they mention it was a Diocese thing?  Or just a NYS thing?  Basically they asked us to wear masks because they don't card us and please do it with respect for your fellow parishioner.  As I said, I don't remember if they said it was because of the Diocese.  Because I first read on the Diocese website they're asking all parishes to require masks and it was in accordance with NYS.  So I fully expected to be wearing a mask today and did so out of respect for my Bishop...  The person behind me was saying 90% of people were wearing masks.  I suspect the people who didn't didn't expect there to be a mandate and just didn't bring one?  Because as the person behind me also said, it's very likely that everyone is also vaccinated.  I also didn't notice #TeamTongue in the building.  The one lady that had been waiting went up regularly.  Once again freaking out about Christmas.  As I told 7500centfish...  I want to ask the Aunts, but I also don't want it to turn into gossip of my whole communion drama.

Mass proper.  Fr. I talked of Mary's yes allowed Jesus to come into the world, the thing we have been preparing for, that is to come soon.  He also talked of Mary going to Elizabeth...  They didn't talk of the latest recipes, but what God had done for them.  He then quoted someone's social media post about how we count calories, etc, but never God's blessings.  Uh...  Says you!  You know how many times I like almost cry thinking of what God has done for me!?!  Anyway...  Lol.  He announced the Christmas / Sunday schedule after which he's going to bed.  HAHAHAHA!!!

Mom had the munchies and was snacking after breakfast.  Like...  She usually saves her pancakes, but ate one, then her left over potato chips from the trip, mochi, peanuts...

Went to see Sight and Sounds, Queen Esther.  Mom and I took a bus with her Alumni Association and met up with 7500centfish and kumquatqueen.  I did a quick recap and read the introduction in my Catholic Study Bible.  It was mostly about how the translation differs from Catholics V Protestants.  The Catholic uses the Greek translation / septuagint (?), while the protestants use the Hebrew?  It's also arranged differently.  Anyway, it was basically a telling of the origins of Purim, how the Jews were sentanced to death and Esther saved them by convincing the King to spare their lives.  Overall...  I think I liked the story more than other ones we've seen.  But the music never grabs me like a proper musical?  But at the same time...  I felt it was too long.  The first act was pretty much setting Esther up to be the favorite wife, but then the 2nd was about how Mordecai won't bow down and worship the...  What did they call him?  Prime Minister?  Which causes him to get the king to sentence the Jews to death.  Oh yeah...  There was this part before she enters the Harem where Mordecai tells her to hide her identity, but then ends the song with "be true to yourself."  What!?!  And of course they need to whip out Jesus somewhere.  FYI, The Book of Esther is one of the only books (?) that doesn't mention God.  Then, 7500centfish made a comment about not knowing other strong females in the Bible.  1.  How do you define strong?  Also, look up Jael...

We left the house at 6:30.  Dropped the car off at Shirley's (Mom's sorority sister).  Her hubby drove us to Staten Island where we got the bus to PA.  Lol.  We assumed there would be traffic so we got to SI way early, thinking no one would be there, but then someone pops their head out, so we head it.  Not much of a breakfast.  Just coffee and Filipino desserts.  Oh and Shirley gave Mom and I apple pie before we left to kill time.  Yeah...  Not breakfast.  But then we were heading to an "Amish Style" Buffet.  Except they served us at the table.  I remember being there with sparkyboy once, but Mom keeps saying it's new.  Anyway...  All I wanted was chicken and mashed potatoes.  Nom nom.  I then wanted to eat more, but knew they'd come out with pie.  So I restrained myself.  Not that I didn't eat much!  I had 2 pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes, no gravy, stuffing, corn, green beans, cole slaw, 2 pieces of bread.  Apple pie with ice cream.  Everyone was raving about the ham balls.  But like I said, all I wanted was chicken.  But what was up with all the drumsticks???  I prefer thighs!  OMG!  The table next to us got brought like 3 plates of chicken!  We should have just given them all our left overs!  Nom nom.

My Filipino card was revoked.  Shirley asked if I spoke Tagalog, no.  But then she further expanded, do I understand anything?  Not really...  She then said she tried to do the same with her kids where they tried to talk to them in English, but they just ended up learning it via listening.  So they understand, but cannot speak.  I said, I understand words, but not enough to get conversation.  But as always, maybe I'm downplaying...  Anyway, that turned into...  We were listening to some a Capella Filipino Christmas songs.  She asked me if I knew them?  She then questioned Mom, like what did you do!?!  Then she was talking about her grand kid.  "Do you know Bahay Cubo?"  No...  Broken camel back!  I dunno...  I wouldn't say we were raised American.  cc 7500centfish Like...  I don't know...  I might not know Bahay Cubo, but I know that pito pito thing.  Oh yeah, Shirley then made a comment how like I said, they tried to do the same so their kids wouldn't be left out with American kids.  Uh...  Yeah, I don't think it would have made a difference with me.  At a prev party I then heard mention of saving up for their Grandchildren / setting up college funds.  I don't even know where I was getting with this.  Just...  Not that I'd expect anything from my Grandparents.  But is that a generational thing?  I don't feel like it's soley a Filipino thing either.  Yeah, I don't know where I was going with this.

Road trip home.  Firstly sad we got no boiled egg.  But we got an empanada, bico, potato chips, apple slices, mochi.  I only ate the apple and empanada.  The rest are in my snack pile...  Got home around 10.  Washed up, popped my zit.

I forgot to bring Mr. Matthews.  Usually I bring him to estimate when we'll be places.  I also didn't watch JCS.  I finished reading my Agatha Christie book and slept mostly.

I remember what "David Our Father" is.  Last weekend...  During the Our Father this little kid, David was singing along, but it was all kid like and mumbled.  But OMG!!!  Too cute!  While singing people, the cantor, Fr. I was smiling, but than at the end the parish gave a little giggle.  Never change David!  FYI, he's like 2 and is a daily Mass goer with is mother.  Adorbs!

Texts.
  • Tita Neng did not wear purple.  :(
  • 7500centfish said she was surprised I didn't post about the Pope's bday.  "Not my favorite pope..."  I then sent her this post, Popes with beards.  Dying!
  • Jennie got Amazon gift cards for Mom and I.  Mom said she didn't know what to do with it, so I texted 7500centfish we need to brainstorm...  7500centfish would rather buy it off her.

    Twitter...
  • Why does the 1st in my Mass Tweet have 0 impressions, but the 2nd which has less text and no picture has 15???  I honestly feel like I'm shadow banned by twitter.
  • Barbara Eden was trending on twitter and she favored my post!!!  Some rando (?) posted a pic of her asking if people knew who she was without looking.  Most of those who commented did.  So she came out to say hi not knowing why she was trending, but wished us a Merry Christmas.  My post has 9194 impressions...
  • Encouraging.  New pew study shows stability in Catholics, but a downtrend in Evangelicals, a rise in Nones.  I think the opposite was said before.  Maybe people are realizing how Protestantism makes no sense...

OMG!!!  Emma was baptized!!!  Now I got to think of what to send her!  It might just be a card / gift card, but...  Is there any way I can make it religious without getting her a like giftcard to say EWTN???  I then wonder...  7500centfish showed me the pics before I saw that Elaine DM'd me.  So I wonder...  Did she DM everyone?  Or did she DM me specifically?  I mean...  She follows my "Secret" account and sees all my religious posts.  Like I get she may not agree with it all (?) but once again, like if the fact I post about these things / have interest in them and maybe she thought I'd have interest / be glad in hearing her daughter was baptized...
