May 28
We were supposed to go to Himeji for the day but we discovered that the castle was completely covered in scaffolding so we decided not to push through. Parents were also tired and wanted to rest for the day.
We had our breakfast and rested for a bit.
Had a mini photoshoot with Bluey before we headed out for shopping.
Looking out to Kyoto and beyond
Presenting the back side of Kyoto
Presenting the train tracks
And here are the butts of 2 bullet trains stopping for a few minutes at the station.
We went out around the station. We started out just at the opposite side of the station. We checked out Isetan. It was a very high class department store. Clothes were on sale but they're still at around 3000+ yen @_@
We went up some more levels and stopped at the crafts/souvenirs floor. I got 2 Totoro rubber stamps (regretting that I should have gotten one makkuro kurosuke stamp instead of 2 totoros).
On the way down we passed by the kids section and grabbed some more totoro (just a drawstring pouch) and Domo kun!!!
Boys and girls split up. My dad and brothers went to Bic Camera and my mom and I went down to Porta to check out some more clothes and stuff.
I stopped by uniqlo to get some Mickey shirts:
We had bought our lunch at Lotteria and brought it to our rooms since they had no tables left. Their burger was good. I wish I tasted the chicken though.. my brother accidentally got my serving of chicken and he's been annoying me the past weeks that I missed what was probably the best fried chicken he ever tasted. >.<
After lunch, my brothers and I headed out for the area of the Handicrafts Center. We got our bus passes again.
Bus pass at the left was for the day before. On the right as seen, has a date printed on the back. It only prints it when you first pass the card through the machine. We think you can stock up on day passes then just use it on the day you'll need it.
And this was the part we got lost... part 1
We found a route that was going through the stop near the center. We got on that bus and discovered it was going the opposite way and the bus will be going around the city before we get to our stop. So we went down near Nijo castle. Got my bearings and went to the direction of the bus stop that would have the bus that goes across the city instead of around it. We met an American family riding bikes at the crossing since we helped them when one of the kids' bikes fell down. We got to the station across the street and waited for the bus. People were pressing the stop button so when our stop was next, I pressed the button. Unknowingly, we stopped way before our stop. So we got down and just realized we got down too early in some sort of middle bus stop. >.< We ended up walking for a block and we finally arrived to the handicraft center.
Their swords were at the first floor, we checked those out first. Found some Sengoku Basara revoltech. Was still deciding whether I get it since it wasn't available online anymore. We went up, found the letter openers I've been looking for.
We went up again and bought my mom a kimono, clogs, socks and the obi. After paying for those, we found an anime section on the same floor. And look what I found!
Old and rare Squall!
Of course I bought it. I couldn't find it anywhere and there it was still at regular price. After buying Squall, the revoltech was out of the question :P
We went back down and presented our shopping card. We got enough points to get a free gift. They made me crank the lottery machine and I got the colored ball that was I guess the equivalent to getting chopsticks.
We crossed the street and went straight to Tozando. My brothers had a great time there and they bought wooden swords and a long stick. I went next door to a kendo shop. Bought a lilac tsuba for my shinai. I should have bought a blue one as well for a bigger shinai if ever I plan on buying a new one. Oh well...
And got lost part 2...
So after, we walked towards the main intersection. We headed to the left and looked for the bus stop. The bus stop is usually right after the intersection and not before it. Apparently I was wrong. We should have turned right instead and we could have found the bus stop. Instead, we just walked straight until the next stop. I felt bad for my younger brother since his legs were already hurting from all the walking we did that day.
We rode the bus and finally got back to Kyoto station safe and sound. We went back to our rooms and presented the kimono to our mom and she loved it!
We went down to Porta to eat our last dinner in Kyoto. Most of us got doria. It's an awesome dish. It's like lasagna but instead of pasta, they had rice. I forgot to take a photo since we were already so hungry by the time the food arrived. (
Here's an image)
After dinner, my parents went up and we still tried to go around and found the ICOCA mascot in one of the stores. I got a
phone dangle that says Kyoto and a
spoon/fork/chopsticks set. (too lazy to take a pic) So regretting I did not buy the
plush toy. TT______TT I can probably ask someone to order me this online.
We went back to our rooms and started packing. We were headed back to Tokyo the next day.
Another shinkansen ride for day 8 will be coming up! ^^
