It's the sour face, deeply furrowed brow, and pulled mouth he sees.
"Whoa. What's with the clouds and thunder, Lighe?"
Elijah can't get quieter. He grabs his keys from the countertop and turns away. Dominic abandons his newspaper and runs after him.
"Hey." He grabs Elijah's arm but Elijah shakes it off. "Baby?"
Elijah throws a look over his shoulder, an eyebrow up as Dom halts in place. "You coming or not?"
Well, sure. Dominic rushes after Elijah as he practically races out to his car. Dominic plops into the passenger seat. "Right. Where are we going?" Elijah doesn’t answer but it’s just expected. Dominic only shrugs and sits straight, looking out the window. He thinks he knows where they’re going.
And he’s right. The huge Kenny Rogers Roasters is written above the restaurant in front of them as Elijah pulls into its parking lot, and Dominic smiles to himself. Kenny’s special quarter meal with one corn muffin and a jacket potato can always sooth Elijah’s feeling.
They will talk more easily after those. Talk - and something else.
