Kara left this morning after a week and a half of Freiburg and a bunch of Germany and Austria. I'm certain that she had a good time, even though I felt a little boring and got embarrasingly drunk when she was on her trip to Austria and was too tired to get it crunk this past weekend, but we went to Baden-Baden instead (which was pretty fucking ridiculous actually. As Bill Clinton said, "It's so nice you gotta spell it twice," but I think my quote would be "It's so rich you can pay Bill Clinton to say that," If you know what I mean - too rich for comfort. It was pretty sick anyway because it had a crazy unrenovated castle that you could hike to). One of many highlights from last week was the day
kara and
I took a
tram up to the
schauinsland (high black forest near freiburg).
And just before that I went to
Berlin and went to panorama bar, which was just about the coolest thing I've ever done in my life. Berlin is of course fascinating, much of the east still an economic vacuum, now haven of coolness and art (and TECHNO). I so want to live in Berlin after NYU, and I hope I can keep up my German-speaking somehow. Tandem partner? The good thing is that I can THINK in german lately, which is much more comfortable/natural then deliberately translating everything into English. Which is perhaps a good exercise, but..
I'm reading
Stadt aus Glas (City of Glass), which I assume was originally written in English since it's about NYC. But for those of you that like graphic novels, I recommend it!
Felix da Housecat is playing for free in Freiburg in July. I'm SO there.
