New Story!

I just finished watching a segment on the History Channel discussing the theory of Ancient Astronauts. There seems to be inconclusive evidence across the globe that we were visited by aliens in our past. They pointed to the alignment of structures in several older civilizations as having near perfect correlation to heavenly bodies, which is strange since it would require advanced understanding of math and space. Another amazing feat of these civilizations is that they observed the planets revolving around the sun, not the long held belief of the Western world that everything revolved around the Earth. They even mentioned the possibilities of electricity and batteries in ancient times which begs the question, How intelligent were we back then? When we talk about mankind of the past we usually resort to describing them as not having the capacity of thought and ingenuity that we have now, but maybe that notion is wrong?

This short story is a tribute to that. Enjoy! (Jaie I am working on the rewrite of the other story. I tried to apply your words of wisdom to this one and I think it came off pretty well!)

Abdul Neelam stormed into the office, leaving the office secretary standing in his wake, with a look of stunned horror. An aggressive looking man, though a bit on the short side, with jet black hair that was beginning to gray on the edges and a beard to go with it. Abdul showed little regard to procedure.
General Wesley Van Nistelroff watched as Abdul proceeded to sit without invitation, ignoring the distress he had caused to his secretary.
“Private McClendon… it is aright.” The General waved towards the door and watched it shut, after which he turned his attention back to his guest.
His eyes are like staring into the barrel of a gun. Thought Abdul, but now was not the time to have second thoughts. He had to be resolute.
General Van Nistelroff was dressed in a black suit adorned with numerous honors from years of service. With a bed of silver hair, eyes of cold onyx, and a face carved from stone one would not ask why he was called the Reaper of Space.
“Professor Neelam… I believe we were scheduled to meet in two days.” The General spoke coolly.
“Yes… however I have been placed into a peculiar situation.” Abdul leaned forward. “You see… someone has shut down my excavation in the Amazon and I was told you could offer an explanation.”
Yes, yes! That was good. Abdul was passive by nature and to be so poised and direct to such an intimidating man was taking a bit of concentration on his part. Luckily he had spent time thinking over the things he would be saying while he was being shuttled to the moon. A days journey.
“We were in need of your expertise-”
Abdul cut him off. “You had need of me? Is that how the military operates? By sabotaging my life and then plucking me right from earth?”
The General’s eyes narrowed. “Professor, it is true that we had shut down your excavation, you avoided our summons repeatedly and left us no choice. Know that we can keep it that way…. permanently if you want to continue with this hostile attitude of yours.”
Abdul looked taken aback and opened his mouth to refute the Generals words.
The General did not give him a chance to speak. “However, I understand the inconveniences we have caused you and have already spoken to several members of congress providing you with whatever you need to complete you excavation in Brazil once we are finished on Mars.”
“Mars… what the hell do you need me there for?”
“You will be know once you arrive-”
“No.. if you want my cooperation I would like to be treated fairly… we keep playing these silly games and you have avoided the subject like acid.” Abdul’s adrenaline had taken over. No more games, he thought.
“I want to know why you need me on Mars? I know you have summoned several other friends of mine… physicists, biologists, and mathematicians… but me? I study the development of human civilizations! Human civilizations.”
Abdul leaned back into his chair. “We have guessed that whatever it is that you found on mars is extraterrestrial… it doesn’t take a genius to see through this iron curtain of yours when scientists are being herded into shuttles and sent to Mars.”
The General studied the professor with clasped hands. “Fine.. I will answer your question. As you said… it is only fair.”
Abdul adjusted his coat, feeling relieved that he had succeeded at this much.
“About three months ago we discovered ruins in the Cydonian region on Mars.”
Abdul’s eyes shined with excitement, though he tried his best to hide it from the General. So its true!
“We have done tests and have determined that the ruins were built almost twenty thousand years ago.”
“My God… so there was life there after all…” whispered Abdul.
The General continued. “Several tombs were uncovered…filled with sarcophagi.”
He opened his top drawer and pulled out a red folder, with “Top Secret” written boldly on the front and handed it to Abdul.
Abdul found it filled with pictures of the ruins and flipped through them. He stopped at one in particular. His face froze with bewilderment.
“This can’t be…” He looked at the General.
“We have only been in space for over a hundred years now… and the human civilization is only several thousand years old.” The General’s voice sounded faint to Abdul’s ears as he looked back at the picture.
“The ruins on Cydonia were not built by little green men… they were built by Humans.” The General looked out his window towards the gulf of space. “Humans”
