Philmont!

Well, hey there everyone! I am alive and well, situated accordingly, and - most importantly - wind blown and dusty. Well, everything here is wind blown and dusty. I definitely don't remember it being this windy last year, but a native New Mexican has informed me that this is NM spring weather and completely normal. I'm still on my toes because if it was this warm and windy in MN, there would be some pretty intense tornado warnings.

Uh, let's see. Last night was my first full night of sleep in 3 days, and of course it was drug induced. I had a killer headache last night, which resulted in me being crabby at people. Bluh! But I feel much better now, even if I did wake up a 5 for no reason and drifted in and out of sleep until 8. Completely missed breakfast, but what the hell. I got to sleep in! TIL 8. :O Craziness.

I am also on a Philcomp because the internet here doesn't like my lappy all of a sudden (*shakes fist at new internet shenanigans Philmont has developed*) and I didn't want to drag it out again just to update a livejournal and maybe read before lunch. I actually have no idea when lunch is. Oh wait, I just checked, it's at 11:30. Woot.

SO. I haven't been able to try out Dad's cool white noise invention, mostly because backcountry staff is staying in the camper tents. While they are nicer, smaller, and nearer to the parking lot, they have no plugs. Or electricity whatsoever. (Also found out Katie's headlamp needed new batteries. On a vaguely related note, making a bed in the dark sucks.) So now I'm crazy glad I bought that white noise album on my iPod. And I can just play the album and then the iPod turns itself off after the 2 hour, uh, song. Songs. Whatever.

Now I know you probably have a lot of questions. First of all, scatter day (the day I high-tail it into the mountains) is June 6th, so I have plenty of time to... do whatever I need to do. Second of all, yes, I am the only girl at Phillips Junction. But I am a half and hour walk away from Crooked Creek and 45 minutes away from Fish Camp, both have girls, and I'm not too concerned. I won't be sleeping in a cabin, but the the Trading Post stock room! They did this last year and it seemed to work out great for the TPM last year, so whatever. I'm kind of ansty to get back there and just start working, but the satellite manager is running WAY behind, so I'm not going to get all my supplies and whatnot for a while.

Laura is now all calm and chipper, and though I haven't been able to hold a conversation with her for 2 days (we are so BUSY) she seems to be really happy with her place at Ring Place.

Uh, also, I got new shorts (relaz, they were only $10 because I used my voucher to get them and since they're considered uniform, they're really cheap that way.) and whatnot. I have a locker for compy, aaaaaaaand... yeah. I really got nothing else to say.

Oh, the train trip was interesting. I slept on the floor... kinda, if waking up every half hour and having the single most fucked up dreams of my life is sleeping. I gave up and sat in the observation car for a while until Laura, who managed much better than me in the sleeping department, joined me and we decided to actually try breakfast in the dining car.

Over-priced, not that great, small portions. Also, does not agree with stomach. Yup, never doing that again. Ever.

I have nothing else to say really. Uh, will have more later, I guess? See you all in three months.
