I have to say, our last gaming session was the most fun I've had yet at being a GM.
My intrepid band of heros made it past the Gargoyles. They ran, and they rolled well. All except Guy's (Austin) bodyguard. He rolled two ones on one of his rolls, so said Gargoyle dragged him over the cliff. Austin thought I was killing his body guard, but fortunately there was a convenient tree growing out of the cliff face that he managed to catch on his way down. Which meant, of course, that our band got to save the NPC, and did so wonderfully.
On to the steppes of Ussura, where they saw the ravages of Montegue's march to the city. They found a village that had been destroyed, where Steph (whose character doesn't have a name, we make up a different one every time we talk to her. Matthew started it. And she's on the run from something or someone, so it's fairly logical. Also, it's funny.) got to make friends with a frightened family, and everyone gave them food and supplies to head south out of the way of the armies.
They came across a unit of soldiers, frozen in place, with a lone survivor, who they warmed up, (our heros now have Mother Ussura on their side, so they left a warm spot in their wake for the survivor, who refuses to leave Montegue's service, and is staying behind to bury his comrades.)
They saw broken fields, bodies that were now carrion, Emil (Tim) who is from Eisen and has seen quite enough of war, got very quiet. Until, of course, they finally got near to the camp, where they were met by four of Montugue's men. One of whom, of course, was wearing a set of Dracheneisen Greaves with a very familiar crest on it. After noticing Tim's Gauntlets, he explained that he had been loaned them from someone back at camp, someone that did indeed have a scar across his right eye just as Emil said. This man was escorting them all back to camp.....
When who should come riding over the ridge but Chevalier and 25 Musketeers and about 5 members of Montegue's Army.
Ha ha. The look on Tim's face was perfect. I enjoyed that quite a bit. I loved producing the effect. I love that he has something to look forward to. Because he is, indeed going to get to camp and find his brother, who has a letter explaining to Emil that he was brought by a man, with the armor. It will be grand. I'm excited.
This will happen after a very odd battle, where the weather keeps our heros from getting hurt at all, and thwarts any attempts by the Musketeers and anyone on their side to mount a successful attack. It should prove interesting to see what Montegue's men do, because the one with the greaves will feel a loyalty to Emil and not want to fight his comrades, nor will those under his command. I'm not sure what they will do about this, but it may be intersting to see Mother Ussura help some of Montegue's men and hinder others. Anyway. Chevalier will give up and warn them not to return to Montaigne, after noticing Guy, and mentioning to him that Remy wants anxiously to see him, and will most likely NOT give up, as he tends to be a very persistent gentleman. And then I can throw a random Musketeer into any place, any adventure, at will. Just to complicate things.
On the next leg of the journey, they will need a boat (if they chase after the compass piece that is going to porte'd out) and there will be only one ship that is willing to take them where they want to go.....enter.....The Necromancer. Complete with legendary crew. Hee hee. Upon leaving port, Bella (Abby) will get a letter from her former fiance (she has a betrothed background) that he has something that is very near and dear to her heart, and that he promises to keep it safe until she comes for a visit. And Bella will then know where her husband is.
Wheeeeeeeeeee. This is so much fun. :) I feel....devious.
