There were a lot of requests for The Martian this year, and I'd read the book a year or two ago, read the great Bucky/Steve fic based on it, and saw the movie opening night, so I thought I could play in the fandom (I did a bit of book/movie melding). So a little while ago I wrote a Musketeers fic and belatedly realized that what I really wanted to do was write a little trilogy. (I'm calling the series "Proud in the Daylight, Faithful in the Darkness" because that's one of the descriptions Cardinal Richelieu gives of the Musketeers in Dumas's original novel.) I seem to keep falling into these fandom frenzies, in which I need to write a story or two just to stop the characters from taking up every corner of my mind. And I also picked up a pinch-hit, this time for agameofscones, who wrote the fantastic Simple Gifts, which was a pleasure to remix. I ended up going back in time for this one, telling a childhood story, but it ended up being far sadder than I'd intended. I still like it, though.
