Must. Be. Angry on behalf of my fellow students.

Must. Not. Mock because I have my student card.

By the way, London Transport is stupidly expensive. I live in zone 4, and a monthly travelcard would cost me about £80. An adult card in £120.That's a saving of £40 a month on the student card - $80 ( Read more... )

They're run by incompetants. And greedy incompetants at that. This is not news.

The best way to get a refund is to continually phone and demand one.

Ugh. I remember what a hassle it was sending my application in by post, and I wasn't even getting Oyster. (I bought a photocard and used weekly paper tickets almost the entire time I was at the LSE, back in the days when you still could.) And of course all the new students want their cards now, so of course the system crashed. Bastards.

(For my own public transport gripes, I've discovered that if I buy a sandwich at National Airport instead of Pentagon City Mall on my way to class tonight, I save about $0.15 on travel costs for travelling the exact same distance. Granted, it's not a vast sum of money, but over the course of my ten-week class that's an extra single fare to somewhere.)

IANAS. I live in zone 2. It costs me £89.10 a month just to go to work. Before Oyster when I was a student I'd go to the desk, wave my student card at them and renew my travelcard. Easy. You'd think there'd be some kind of simple system like this that allowed you to bypass the website when its broken.

And yet - and it hurts to say this, being a smug New Yorker and all - your underground system is still better than ours.

TfL said they were "working hard to urgently resolve" the problems, which were due to high demand, and asked people to apply out of office hours.

Oh, you mean, term has started and all the students want to do it at once?

Who could possibly have predicted that, I mean, that's so totally unexpected.

Oh, wait...

OTOH, £80 compared to the cost of running a car in Devon? I'll take the TFL prices PLZKTHX.
