Three Reasons

. . . why second-hand bookstalls in school fairs rock:

1. Howl's Moving Castle. Saw it, picked it up, bought it for 10p. When I got home, I opened it... and discovered, written on the first page "to Catherine, Diana Wynne Jones"! It's from around 1988 as well, so about the same age as me. Is this not really, really cool?

2. John Wyndham. I added three more copies to my collection - Consider Her Ways (1974), The Seeds of Time (70s, different edition to my other one) and Trouble With Lichen (70s). The third is doubly groovy as I hadn't read it before. It's not his best (what could beat Triffids, really?) and goes off on one in a weirder way than usual, but meh, my collection grows. And they were 10p each. My addiction has to be the easiest to support there is.

3. Modern Short Stories, from like, the fifties. Haven't read that one yet, but I love me some old books. The pages just smell awesome, and don't get me started on the typesetting.

Today I also realised that it's been years, possibly, since we got a wrong number caller. I miss wrong numbers. What is happening to the world? We're becoming far too efficient.
