Observation: movie screens still have blips and hairs and stuff in them. The good old days have not entirely passed.

I was babysitting a friend's young son the other night, and we saw The Magnificent Seven. Thrilling and touching, with Bernstein's amazing score and fantastic performances by Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, etc. The documentary mentioned that McQueen wasn't satisfied with a supporting role, and kept fiddling with his hat, catching ( Read more... )

I must be attracting BTBs (Big Thick Books) lately: Harry Potter VI, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and now the Sword of Shannara Trilogy -- over 1000 pages of magical mayhem and some of the most derivative scenes I've ever read. ( Spoilers. )
