But first: Za Walk,
Went on a nice little walk with James tonight... I've been wanting to cash a check for a while now, and I haven't been able to do it, because each time I go to the ATM (because I'm never up during banker's hours) I forget to bring a pen, and there's NEVER one at the ATM. So, tonight I made sure to bring a pen. And guess what they have there this ONE time... That's right, there was a pen in there. Grrr.
The walk itself was nice though... It was warm for a change, but it was more humid than I'm used to. James, who has lived in Hawaii in the past said "HUMID?! This isn't humid!" - riiiiight. There's definitely something cross-wired in his brain.
We just kept walking and walking... It was raining slightly when we left the dorm, but it stopped as we got off campus... And after walking for an hour or two, it only started raining as we got close to the dorms... I told James that the storm was just sitting over campus and slowly moving out, but he didn't believe me!
Za Dorm
Alright, after a week of being back on campus, I thought I'd give a general update of life on campus...
1 - moving back to Kurtz Hall isn't as bad as I thought it would be. My biggest issues have been the fact that I spent 8 terms (thats 10*6 + 9*2.... 60+18 =) 78 weeks living in one of two rooms in that dorm hall - there have been many occasions when I'll be leaving class or something and start to walk over to the wrong dorm hall... I guess that's something that would happen with me.
2 - it's so damn cold here. I'm not sure if it's just my room, or if it's a dorm-hall in general thing, but it's like the AC is on all the time... Every one of my roommates have commented about how cold our room is... I'm always bundled up with multiple layers, which is something that this PJ + White t-shirt wearin' guy rarely does.
3 - SHOWERS OF TORTURE!!! The showers here are horribly small for some reason... I've heard people talking aobut this before, but I never had the pleasure of actually living in a room that was graced with such small showers.
4 - The Great Experiment. Baker of Owosso occasionally has experimented with "new dorm designs" before - this has included things such as the "5 person apartments" and "small showers" before - but there's been one big experiment that me and my fellow roommies (as well as everyone else living in this wing of Kurtz hall) have to suffer though - the great "carpet free" dorms. Yup, that's right, there's not a single scrap of carpet in this room by default. 100% tile. Andrew has lived in a room like this before, so he was prepared with some rugs (or I would have died of cold-floor exposure).
5 - The Cave Has An Extra Brick... My room is longer by "one brick" (calculated by my suite-mate Steve. Most likely this is because my room is smaller because of all the damn over-hangs and crap that we've got. Although, we are the only bedroom that has a "hallway" once you enter the room ^_^
Pictures!!
The stack of Crap. Going from bottom to top:
Shoes
Experiment8 (the PC)
Shakespeare and Textbooks
Dresser
"The Treasure Chest" full of towels and blank paper and whatnot
The Fish - Spaz Twins
Evangelion Wallscroll (upper left)
Bed (upper right)
Behind Bars! The two PCs. Suzi is on the left there (the silver one with the blue lights) with Miki on the right, chugging along. The Netgear 10/100 Mbps switch in the lower left, and my "leg room" that's all of 4 or 5 inches across, monopolized by wires.
Closet Space! Andrew's stuff is on the left - his mini fridge is on his dresser. Notice the white and gold hangers - Andrew's clothes are on the gold hangers and mine are on the white... I seem to have the majority of clothing in this room. Also, see all that pop on Andrews side? One can of "Coke + Line" leaked... It puddled up there, and eventually drizzled down behind everything, and eventually came out the front of the shelving... Making a mess on Andrew's stuff.
My bed - the cave. I sleep at the foot of the bed to be sure that I don't get a nasty suprise in the morning when I sit up. It's still a problem getting into bed at times... I always bump something on that thing, my bum, my shoulder, my knee, my head... Grrr. Well, at least everything is blue up there... If you look closely, you might be able to spot my alarm clock!
BTW: That is Andrew's hacker hat - I've got the counter part, the white hacker hat, but I didn't bring it up to campus... I might eventually, but I'm not sure yet. Tim, our MCSE instructor would just love it.
Andrew's PCs are on the left, and mine is on the right. Andrew forgot his KVM switch, so each time he wants to mess around with Gentoo, he's had to manually switch everything (not only is that inconvenient, but it's also risky) and it seems that something happened to his Gentoo machine, where he's not even getting POST to show up on screen, nor is he getting error beeps... Mystery.
My machine is just chugging along there, looking all spiffified. Wallscrolls are Kare Kano (left) and Witch Hunter Robin (right) - photo is from the hallway (the one in the room) and is partially cut off by the "open closet." Pascal is sitting on the wooden TV tray that I use for a location to put my mouse. He seems to be fairly happy there.
Close up of the Spaz Twinz. I believe that's Shadow up top and Hikari down below... It's difficult to tell. It's going to be difficult to get shots of them, they never stop moving!
A shot of the books of the term.... The "navy blue" book is cultural diversity, which isn't a bad read. The other two are the MCSE twins... Security is thick as hell - it's gotta be around 600+ pages with a lab book that's also proportionatly thick -- I'll check on the pages eventually. Active Directory (A.D.) and it's accompyning lab manual are pretty thin, so I'm happy with that.
This photo also caputres a glimpse of my PJs, shoes, Shakespeare book, and some blue networking lights as well as my cellphone charger coming from under the "treasure chest."
Side Note: All these photos were taken last monday - in the afternoon, when I was really bored.
Thanks,
