my weekend

Our latest paycheck was the first that we were going to pay for Christmas with so I decided to go shopping except for I didn't do so well.  Why is it that 8 year olds want toys that are going to break in two weeks and 14 year olds want nothing but super expensive items?  I managed to buy a few things but I really haven't made a dent in my list this year.  I have decided to shop for the first time in forever on black Friday.  I am hitting up Sears first and then will go from there.

Ingredients
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Beat in extract.
  3. Seperately mix flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in 1 cup of peppermint candy.
  4. Gradually add flour and candy mixture to creamed mixture beating well until well blended. Dough will be stiff.
  5. Divide dough in half. Shape each half into a rectangle 12 x 3 inches. Carefully transfer each to baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Carefully remove and place on a wire rack to cool slightly, until cool to the touch but not cooled all the way through. On a cutting board cut each rectangle into 1/2 inch cookies.
  7. Place the cookies back onto the baking sheet (touching is okay) and bake for an additional 12 to 15 minutes or until firm. Let cool completely on wire rack.
  8. Melt chocolate candy coating according to package directions and dip one side of the biscotti into the chocolate and sprinkle with some of the remaining peppermint candy. Place on waxed paper until chocolate coating sets.

I got the basic recipe from Jess and changed it up just slightly.  It is my new favorite for my Christmas cookie tray this year.

I made the one on the left in reds and greens for my mom and the one on the righ in silver for me.  I really like how they turned out.  I have two more planters that I will never used for plants so I think I will make a couple more.

Does your husband have a friend that you don't like and who equally doesn't like you?  Has said friend ever been given an invitation for Thanksgiving?  I don't know if he will come or not but the invitation has been extended.  I will be gracious no matter how much said person gets on my nerves.
