So that was 2014?

I spent the New Year intermittently hacking at recalcitrant screws, and finishing a hat for Lil.

2014 was The Year of the Yarn. Around the end of 2013 I did a clear out of a lot of stuff I'd never use which included three bags of wool bought for use with the knitting machine which has been in storage for 10 years (as I have nowhere to set it up). So it's ironic that I spent most of this year buying yarn for various crochet projects.

It started with the 'Christmas Sweater' that I ordered for the LDD, which did not arrive until New Year and turned out to be cheap Chinese tat (which I'd expected, but it was just a bit of fun). So I looked around for knitted dog coats and discovered that they are very overpriced, and wouldn't really fit. The answer was to find a pattern and make one myself. Which meant re-learning to knit. Though I know from experience that my knitting skills are minimal, rusty, and I have never knowingly finished anything. Not so with crochet. I had one half-used ball of pink yarn at the back of the cupboard and two crochet hooks and two sets of circular knitting needles bequeathed to me by Mum, so I decided to so some practice. I finished a crochet shawl, and cast on some practice stitches on the circular needles (which have a 3ft long cable - I think Mum must have used them to knit my school jumpers before she got her own knitting machine), which I took to Eastercon. Where the local wool shop ran a Knit and Natter session. And I bought some lovely varigated green yarn with which to add a crocheted collar to my plain cardi.

It snowballed from there. My subsequent projects are now on my Ravelry page (I am coming to terms with Ravelry's peculiarities). And I may even get round to actually knitting Draco his Christmas coat for next year (he already has a crocheted one).

I even managed a bit of writing and some DIY. Speaking of which...
