april vacation 2005. from the great college search to pictionary domination
so im finally getting a chance to write about april vacation! now that its totally over... so lets see...vacation started and i know dan came over that friday night, but i dont remember what we did. it was a long time ago. and then that first saturday of vacation was tristan's party. that was surprisingly more fun than i expected it to be. it was a pretty random assortment of kids, but still a good group. crystal, amy, allie #1, colleen, matt, homeschool, and tristan from the australia group. and jordan too for a little while, but she didnt really fit in that well. she told a karate story, so that was entertaining. sort of. not really. anyway...and then there were kids from the england. lauren (obviously..it was at her house), courtney, and adam and courtney's boyfriend jordan. i know, a girl jordan and a guy jordan, but the girl one didnt stay very long. and then two of lauren's friends from school were there too. and i feel like im forgetting someone, but i dont know who... anyway, it was a surprise party, but tristan knew about it. im not sure if he knew it was actually that night, but i know he was aware of the fact that lauren was throwing him a surprise party. he was kind of pissed about it tho. he was told that they were gonna go to chiles, and then he was mad that they didnt go. i would think a party with people you havent seen in months would be more fun than going to chiles, but hey...whatever. so we had fun. it was a little weird to see adam because i havent even talked to him in like...forever. we just lost touch. and i never bothered to try to keep up with him again. anyway...
sunday morning we left for philly. we went to some irish pub for lunch, and i got tacos. it was great. and we went to south street for shopping. i got my prom jewelry, and some cool plastic earrings. and we went to a bunch of thrift shops but i just got one pair of pants (although i did want to buy some cute 80s dresses, but its not worth paying $30 just to have something youll never wear...) and thats pretty much all we did in philly. on monday we looked at swarthmore and haverford. theyre pretty similar. they are both gorgeous schools. they have all stone buildings and the campuses are just so beautiful. they are kind of old fashioned tho... like they have kept some of the same traditions since they were actually quaker schools. i dont remember which one...i think it was haverford...has an honor code system for the rules. there arent really any real rules. and if you do something, you have to do something to make up for it, like write a paper about why what you did was wrong. and its all really trusting. for example...you have self monitored exams. you just take them whenever you want within a week window, and you can take them wherever you want. i think thats a bit too trusting, because how can you be sure somebody wont cheat? its a bit ridiculous... that night we drove to poughkeepsie and in the morning we went to vassar. that school is pretty nice too. they have a great study abroad program (which i am so definitely going to do) and they have a good film program too. so im thinking that if i went there, i would do something like major in international studies and minor in film. that would be cool. then when we were leaving vassar, i saw karen!! that was so cool because i dont think ive seen her since we came home from australia and i know i havent talked to her pretty much at all either. so that was fun to see her. that afternoon we went to skidmore, which i also love. saratoga springs is possibly my favorite town in this area. it is so cute. and it has a ben and jerrys. (which by the way..it was free cone day when we were there!! so me and mom got free cones of chocolate therapy, a new flavor. omg you have to try it! its amazing. its like, chocolate ice cream with pudding in it!!! its so good) and skidmore is cute. whats weird is that i wanted to go there when i was in third grade. thats only because abby (my babysitter) was going there, so i thought it was the coolest thing ever. i dont know tho. i still have to keep looking.
so we came home tuesday night, and then i had blood borne pathogen training at work the next morning. and then i stayed to work for a few hours, and me and mom went to dan's baseball game for a little while in the afternoon. and then dan came over that night. that was fun. we watched austin powers. thursday, i know i worked in the morning...but i honestly cannot remember what else i did on thursday. it seriously is blank to me...
friday was the one day i had to sleep in late, so i blew that by getting up at 8:30. i did some homework and a little bit of cleaning my room. then friday night, we went to mikes house. mike got this prom date that he had never met before. she is like his mom's friend's daughter or something... anyway, she was supposed to come over on friday so that she and mike could meet each other before prom. but he didnt want to meet her by himself, so we all went over to meet her together. but she called and said she couldnt come...so that was kind of crappy. we still had fun tho. as lame as this sounds, we played pictionary. it was so fun tho. me and dan fully dominated the whole game. we got all the way around the board, and alex and alicia were still on start. and i think the other 2 teams were about a quarter of the way thru the board. we just killed. it was amazing. and might i say, craig is skilled at drawing dragons with nipples coming out of their heads. anyway, that was friday night.
i had to work all day long on saturday, which was surprisingly not as bad as i was expecting it to be. mike got to meet his prom date that day. they went to lunch together, and dan and amanda went too. her name is holly. when we asked mikes mom what her last name was, she said "stepp with two Ps" so i thought that was just the greatest thing ever, and im afraid that when i meet her, i might just say "so youre holly stepp with two Ps". its just funny to me. dan picked me up at work on saturday. he met ann. it wasnt too bad except that she said "o is this your cutie!" that was a bit embarrassing, but hey...i did warn him that he would have to meet her. so it was pouring out, and when we got to the car, (luckily dan had an umbrella) dan was going thru his pockets, and he couldnt find his keys!! we were so scared he locked them in the car. we didnt know what we were gonna do. but they were in his coat pocket. so it was all good. so we went to my house because i had to change, and then we went to craig's parents' anniversary party at the firehouse. that was fun. i met craig's brother. id never met him before. and there was a dj and he played the cha cha slide and cotton eye joe and stuff. but he mostly played older music because it was pretty much an adult party, but it was good music. like, i actually knew a lot of it. seventies stuff. it was nice.
so then sunday i slept till 12. that was beautiful. but i did homework all afternoon. i took a lot of breaks tho, and ended up staying up till 1:30 to finish. i kind of hate myself for that. like, i had a whole entire week to do my homework, and i had to stay up till 1:30 the last night of vacation so i could finish it. i know i wasnt the only one tho, so i dont feel too bad. then monday morning was back to school. so now its tuesday and prom is friday and saturday and im so excited!! im going to omas to get my dress tomorrow, and i bought fake nails yesterday so ill put those on thursday night. and liz is coming to help me with my hair for friday night because im only getting it done for saturday. its so exciting. but its now 11:15, and im still tired, so i need to go to bed. the end.
