Kiss the Rain
Chapter VIII part b
“Donghae, what are you doing here? Why aren't you in the hospital?”
After hours of searching for Donghae, I saw him at the rooftop of our school. He looked downcast, like a broken bottle that was overflowing with unmasked emotions. I knew this would happen. They were so happy a week ago, but now they were as miserable as the gray sky that will soon cry. It would rain soon. Bitch fate is a bitch.
“Donghae, talk to me--no, I mean, let's go inside. It's starting to drizzle.”
I saw him sigh, and I couldn't take the dark aura anymore. They were my support when I was imprisoned within those white walls within the hospital - I need to give them my all from now on. I must help them in any way that I can.
“Hyung,” his voice was raspy. I looked up. Flushed skin, red eyes and a wistful smile. My heart broke into pieces. I may bicker with this person in front of me most of the time but he needs me now - he looked like a lost child.
I gathered him in my arms and I wasn't aware of what happened next. I closed my eyes and all I heard was the tip tap of the rain, clutching and rubbing sounds of clothes, and his sobs. I knew that I was soaked with his tears, snot, and the rain, but I didn't care. I was here to comfort my brother; that's the only important detail.

“Hey, Kyuhyun, stop killing that mug with your glare,” Changmin teased his best friend before laughing at the scowl sent to him. Vibrant colors that painted the walls, a friendly atmosphere, some buzzing here and there - they were at the nearby cafe as usual, drinking their favorite coffee while talking with each other. Changmin frowned, that would happen if Kyuhyun wasn't looking so irritated and sending holes to the coffee mug that sat before him. Either way, this was indeed interesting.
Changmin sighed, it seemed that Kyuhyun wasn't going to back down from killing the poor mug anytime soon. “Cho, if you badly want to kill that pitiful mug, please don't do it in front of me. I don't want to see you murder,” he flicked Kyuhyun's forehead before continuing, “a thing.”
Kyuhyun kicked him under the table but, with Changmin's fast reflexes, missed his target. The latter laughed at his best friend's misery.
“Seriously. If you hate your brother so much, why won't you just tell it straight to his face rather than implying it and killing that poor mug?” Changmin asked as he sipped his own black coffee. Strong and dark, as he least wanted. He spurted the little amount he drank before coughing violently. It was now Kyuhyun's turn to laugh and be amused at his friend.
“Next time, remind me to not let you buy my beverages!” Changmin complained as he smacked Kyuhyun's head, the latter still laughing at the entertaining sight he saw earlier.
“If you weren't much a slave driver, nothing like that would happen,” Kyuhyun mocked in between his laughs.
“Idiot.”
“Jerk.”
“Dumbass.”
“Glutton.”
“Show off.”
“Weirdo.”
“Stuck up.”
“Tuxedo-wearing stick.”
“Genius that doesn't know anything.”
“Does that even make sense, Jerk?” Kyuhyun smirked and raised a brow at Changmin, earning a chuckle from the other.
“Well, yeah. For you, it does, Dumbass.” Changmin laughed at Kyuhyun once more.
“Shut up, idiot Shim,” Kyuhyun barked with a childish tone and Changmin couldn't contain his amusement anymore. He fell off his chair and laughed out loud, not caring of the few onlookers that stared at them.
“Child,” he muttered as he fixed his chair and sat on it. He heaved a deep breath before grinning at Kyuhyun, the earlier incident not leaving his mind.
The other coughed to hide his flushing face and sat up straight.
“So,” Changmin drawled, “I have a question.” He rested his chin on his right palm, his elbow on the armrest.
“It better not be idiotic or I'll kill you for sure,” Kyuhyun hissed between his teeth while Changmin smirked to himself, another amusing sight.
“Well, you better kill that mug first, right? Never destroy your wonderful pride, Cho. Finish what you started first,” Changmin teased with a mocking tone. Kyuhyun scowled.
“Your question?” The older stared at his best friend, not able to take the teasings any longer.
“Oh, right, about that. Have you told Ryeowook's parents about his decision to donate his circulatory system? Or, yeah, his heart.” Changmin knew that Kyuhyun wasn't ready to hear his deceased lover's name yet but he still insisted himself from asking the question that has been bothering him for days. He knew too well that Kyuhyun hasn't moved on from the tragic accident that happened. But he would not afford to place his friend in danger, knowing well enough that everything happening isn't placing on their right places.
“No,” Kyuhyun answered coldly. He avoided Changmin's gaze as all the hundreds of memories he shared with Ryeowook flooded back to his mind. (“Damn Changmin; why does he need to mention my Ryeowook's name?” he told himself.)
“Why? They need to know, Kyuhyun. Ryeowook's their son-”
“I don't care anymore, okay?”
“But they need to know. Things won't go too well for you if they knew it from other people!” Changmin shouted at his friend. He was really worried. Kyuhyun wasn't someone that could take care of things on his own. Hell, they're still in high school! Why does he need to encounter a number of problems?
“What part of 'I don't care' don't you understand? Do I need to explain to you what it means, Changmin?”
The people from the cafe started to stare at them again; not with amused looks anymore, but of irritation. They were causing a scene and they needed to talk about this outside.
“Kyuhyun, chill. Let's talk about this calmly. You were close with his parents before, so what are you doing now-”
“I said that I don't freaking care, alright?” Kyuhyun aggressively stood up from his seat, making it fall down with a bang, and stomped his way out of the once cozy place.
Changmin sighed. He hoped that Kyuhyun can solve anything by himself. He's leaving for another country soon, no one would take care of his best friend anymore. Kyuhyun never lets his parents and siblings decide for himself - only Changmin could do that even though they were the same age. He wishes for Kyuhyun to find someone like Ryeowook that could change him back to his own cheerful self - and that person must promise to not leave Kyuhyun's side no matter what.
Oh, he could only hope.

After sending Donghae home and taking a bath at my own house, I went straight to the hospital where Hyukjae was confined. Donghae told already me everything that I must know and the information really disheartened me. Hyukjae? Forgetting Donghae? Heck, that is impossible!
I entered my friend's room and saw that Hyukjae was writing something. Not wanting to shock the younger, I closed the door silently and walked to him calmly.
“Hyuk?” I whispered. Hyukjae looked at me and smiled. I smiled back with the same amount of emotion as Donghae. Everything's really a mess, and I don't want them to stay like this.
“Hey, hyung.”
I sat at the edge of his bed and made myself comfortable while Hyuk went back to what he was doing awhile ago.
“Hyuk, what are you doing?” Curious, I took a peek at his notebook and saw that he was writing what happened to him today. Not that I know them, of course. I just saw what Donghae narrated me earlier this day.
Hyukjae looked at me for a second then back at his writings. “The doctor said that I should keep a journal or something to record the events of my days. He said that it might trigger something from my memory.”
I blinked at him. “What? I don't get it.”
He smiled wistfully at me, and for a split second, I remembered the smile that Donghae showed me back when we were at the rooftop. It mirrored the same sadness as Hyukjae is showing me right now. I frowned at my heart but remained my calm composure in front of my best friend. He doesn't know anything at present. I need to help him, not shock him.
“Hyung, I don't remember why I was sent to the hospital, neither the past few days. The doctor said that I had Selective Memory Loss, and that some kind of emotion or trauma triggered my brain to lose some of my memories. He added that he wasn't sure if I could regain all my memories, so as a precaution, this.” He raised his notebook as if saying that it was the only solution to his problem.
I sighed and hugged him. “Hyuk, if you ever need something from me, ask me and I will give it to you. I promise. Hyung never breaks his promises, right?” I brushed a strand of hair that fell to his face and smiled gently at him like a mother would.
“Yeah, I know, hyung. But,” he paused and look at me directly in my eyes. “When were you discharged from the hospital? They found you a suitable donor already?” He blinked at me then pouted, something that the normal Hyukjae would never do. I gaped at him. “Hyung, why did you never tell me that? We're best friends, right? Both of us - only the two of us!” He grinned at me, and my heart broke because of his words.
“And, another thing, when did you become the motherly type? You were always like the big brother, aren't you? It feels weird, hyung. Gives me goosebumps.” He faked a shiver while rubbing his arms like a child.
I just stared at him wide eyed and wondered - will we ever come back to before again? When I was their elder brother, and Hyukjae was the cool guy while Donghae was always the childish one?
Would fate stop being an ass and grant my wish even for once? It hurts me too see them like this, my brothers. I won't be able to take it. I hope I can do something. Even if all the problems be on me, I'll coninue to support them. Whatever. Just … please.
“Sungminnie, you should never wish without thinking, you know?” a voice I've never heard spoke from behind me. I look at my back to see no one. I bit my lower lip and looked at Hyukjae and saw him sleeping. I positioned him to a more comfortable position before standing up to leave.
I gulped as I heard the same voice again, “You should be able to take care of yourself before I give him fully to you. I'm not always here, you know? I only have limited time. Please, please hurry.”
I gulped again and looked around the room and saw no one that might be playing pranks on me. I froze when I felt someone hug me. All of a sudden, my heart beat rose and all I saw was black.
