Right. What did I want to blog this morning? I'll just ramble and see where it goes..

1.  I have a very good friend whose twin sister is addicted to pain killers - as she once was - and she's at her wit's end about it.  She knows exactly how her sis is feeling and how difficult it is going to be.  Her sis has 3 kids, the youngest is 10 and the eldest is 14, and the husband has a fetish for stealing money.. sigh.  These twins were my closest friends growing up, from the time I was in 6th grade, so we go way back.  I'm really concerned about them.  But being so far away, as they live in Arkansas, all I can really do is offer a sympathetic ear.  :(

2. In more frivolous news, my supervisor got me a Target gift card for my birthday, and I'm going shopping!  Yay!  And I really need to pop over to Michael's to get some yarn and another pair of wood US 17 knitting needles.  I'm in the beginning stages of knitting my son a blanket for his 13th birthday in July and I wanted to also knit one for his sister for her 9th birthday in August.  I keep screwing up about a third of the way in on Jon's blanket and I've ripped it out 3 times so far.  I am hoping I can get my act together and get the blanket finished soon.  The needles are huge, so things knit up faster than on smaller ones.  Cross your fingers for me.   Oh, and when

russtycat  comes over this weekend, I'm going to beg her to teach me some different stitches so I'm not a one-note wonder. ;P  We're going to be knitting and watching movies on my laptop, lol!  Hopefully we won't go blind..

3.  Speaking of
russtycat ~ did you see this mp3 of the "new acoustic song" that 30stm played in Tokoyo?  It's here. [you can right-click and save target as if you want to download it]

4.  Commencement is happening on Friday.  The entire campus is filled to the brim with big white tents, as some colleges will hold their graduations outside on the grounds.  Ours will be in the huge new basketball stadium recently built.  I'm not going this year, though.  I'm going to stay in the office and hold down the fort.  We've got a reception just afterwards on the lawn just outside our building, so I'll probably pitch in there.

5.  It's been pretty hot here the past couple of days.  Griffith Park is on fire.  I noticed that the hills to the north of where I work and live were all smokey yesterday afternoon and I figured there was probably a fire.  But I didn't realize that it was Griffith Park.  They had to evacuate The Observatory, the Greek Theatre, the Los Angeles Zoo, Travel Town and the Museum of the American West yesterday.  The animals in the zoo are ok, though.  I hope they can get the fire contained asap, but our conditions are extremely dry and there is a very hot wind blowing.
