Once again I find myself writing in the office instead of doing work. Okay, okay, I actually AM doing work but I'm doing this on the side as well since there isn't much to do at the moment.
Strangely, I've been hearing more high frequency noises lately. Old computer monitors give off this high pitched squealing noise for no apparent reason. There's one in the room and I can hear it clearly whenever my mom uses it. But she says she can't hear it at all! The PA system on the LRT does the same on some trains, but no one seems to pay it any heed. I wonder if there's something wrong with me or if I'm just imagining things....
I mentioned earlier that I was playing DiadraEmpty, a shoot-'em-up. Unlike most shooters, is isn't side-scrolling or vertical, but instead places you in this giant rectangle (about 2.5 x 8 screens big) and enemies spawn inside. And you.... basically.... shoot stuff..... but you can only fire to your left or right! Somehow, the story portion is missing. I'm assuming it was printed or something since not even the official website seems to have it. The main character is this cute girl riding on a cute dragon and there's mention of her sister, but there's nothing really definitive there.
The power-up system takes a more modern approach as you buy upgrades in between levels with coins that you can collect. There's not too many choices to make though - weapon, speed, turbo, options (a-la-Gradius) are your main upgrade choices.
This game actually throws a helluva lot of bullets at you and the colours can get quite psychedelic on occasion(KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PINK!!!), but the patterns aren't all that hard to evade. Well, I guess it's partially because of the massive amounts of invulnerability that you have thrown at you in this game.
Turbo mode, activated by holding down a button, allows you to move rapidly while activating a secondary attack, the bright wing. This is actually the only attack you have that hits directly above and below you, albeit it's really short ranged and it only activates once every 2 seconds or so. It's really handy in dealing with enemies that come in massive swarms. However, the most important part of turbo mode is the beginning. Upon activating it, you gain QUITE a length period of invulnerability, something like 3 seconds. The cost is time, when you stop using turbo mode, a bar starts to recharge and you won't get that invulnerability boost until it's full again. Of course, you can still get the speed boost and bright wing attack.
That's not the end of it, though! You also get a 1-hit shield! It takes the hit for you and then starts to recharge. If you get hit while it's recharging, then, of course, you'd lose a life, but this shield would let even average players (like myself) to make good progress in the game. Well, it takes longer to recharge depending on how many times you've been hit previously and I think could go over 20 seconds at the higher numbers. I had some ridiculous amount like 20+ at one time.
There is a leveling system in the game, but it doesn't seem to do much other than grant you extra bombs when you gain a level. The game keeps track of the total number of levels you have gained and seems to grant you unlocks every now and then. There are actually quite a number of weapon and option choices available when you being the game and more will unlock as you progress.
I still haven't beaten the last boss, that freakin' thing is as hard as nails and every time you think you win it comes out with ANOTHER form! There's one where it's completely BLACK! And bullets appear out of the nothingness. I might consider writing a review when I finally get past that *********sidji************ofa******!!!
Hey, I've only had it for one day...
*Ahem*
Irrevocably!!! I just felt like saying that.
My DS still doesn't seem so good. I wonder how I can go about fixing it.
I think I should be coming in to a tiny wad of cash soon, but I'm not sure what to spend it on. Hopefully not another DS ~~>_<~~
I want a camera. I've gone ages without one and every time I feel like taking a picture, I can't. Ah well, but if it's too expensive maybe I'll just splurge on a giant muffin instead!
So everyone in Malaysia and their dog/cat saw the Badminton Olympics finals yesterday. I won't comment much.... just to say... it felt like he was hitting shuttlecocks against a giant living trampoline. Interestingly,k a friend who was playing WoW mentioned that his ping jumped up t a ridiculous 3,000 ms after the match ended. I don't thin anyone thinks that that's a coincidence. Malaysia has waaaaaaay to many bloggers.
You know, (okay maybe you don't know XD), I think of myself as an unfit person. So I went for a jog in the park and surprised myself by finishing one lap! Okay, so it was less than 1km, but I didn't even think I would last 500m. All the times I've tried to jog my way home from work ended in failure! I'm not sure if it's the steep hills or the fact that I carry a bag, but it never works. So if I have time, I think I'll try for more next week!
So little time! I actually wrote all of the above in the office in handwriting, so had to retype it... orz... and I ended up having more work to do than I expected so I couldn't continue any further!
Hrm... maybe I should actually pick a topic next time and write about it instead. Like... the deforestation of the polar ice caps...
