ii. the new students
The girl exhaled as she stepped into the Park Academy ground before a smirk stretched across her beautiful face. She looked up, marveling the huge building of the academy, her eyes shone with mischief.
“Are you sure this is okay?” she heard one of her friends asked, uncertainty laced in his voice.
She chuckled lightly before lowering her head, a confident smile on her face, “Don’t be such a baby, Panda.” She walked forwards with her other friends following behind,
“This is perfectly fine.”

Park Academy.
One of the most prestigious schools in Korea. Only chosen people are allowed to be in this school, be it teachers, students or the staffs. The one solely reason of this is that almost half of Park Academy’s population consists of vampires.
Yes, the blood-drinking monsters that preys upon humans. Vampires.
Kyuhyun watched in silent as the Day Class students began walking to the school building, cheery chatters and laughter coming from them. He couldn’t help but to smile a bit at this. If anyone were to see this, they won’t believe that all the Humans in this academy are just another lambs getting caught in a cage filled with hungry lions.
“Isn’t that a bit harsh?”
Kyuhyun stayed silent as Chairman Park stood beside the window of his office, watching as the sun started to rise, casting red and yellow hues across the sky.
“Well, I understand that Vampires have been the enemies of Humans for some centuries now…. But there are still some Vampires who wish to co-exist with us peacefully.”
Jungsu paused a moment, waiting if there’s any response from Kyuhyun. However, hearing none, he continued, “It’s important to teach them to have pride in taking the first steps to the bridge that divided our races. Kyuhyun…”
Kyuhyun’s eyes darted on the Chairman at the mention of his name, “Even though you may think it’s impossible now… Someday, I want you to understand that.”
A pregnant silence ensued between them before Kyuhyun spoke, “That’s impossible. The past can never be erased.” His tone was bitter and somehow, Jungsu knew there’s an underlying meaning beneath Kyuhyun’s words.
“And you believe that because they’re beasts in Human form who drink Human blood?”
The silence grew tenser and thicker as Jungsu and Kyuhyun were having a staring competition. They went for another 30 seconds before Kyuhyun breaking it with a sigh, “It’s time. I’m going.”
Jungsu could only sigh as the younger male exited his office.
Kyuhyun’s mind was brought back to reality when Minseok walked towards him, a smile on his face like usual, the ones that made Kyuhyun smiled back.
“Have you got your breakfast, Kyuhyun? If you haven’t, we can go together.”
Kyuhyun shook his head, “It’s fine… I woke up early, so I ate before all of you. I hope you don’t mind.”
“It’s okay, I understand, considering your job as a prefect…. But I hope you can join us during lunch.”
The prefect nodded again, “Sure.”
--
Jungsu was about to sip his tea when suddenly the door of his office was kicked open (literally) until the piece of wood flew opened and ended up broke into medium-sized and tiny little pieces just near his desk. He squinted his eyes through the dust from the broken wood and saw a group of teenagers who seemed unfamiliar at first but when he studied them further, his eyes widened in recognition.
“Good morning, Mr. Park~!” a familiar childish, male voice greeted him in English and Jungsu’s mouth fell ajar.
“You….”
--
Kyuhyun stopped walking to his class when his heart thumped loudly. He whipped his head around, his narrowed eyes glaring at nothingness. He sensed there’s a foreign scent in the school ground and he was irritated because he couldn’t figure out what was it.
“Good morning, Mr. Prefect.”
His head snapped towards the voice in alarm and true enough, a group of Night Class students, all wearing casual clothes, were standing not far from him. His eyes narrowed dangerously at the smirking Vampire, the one who greeted him, Hyunseung, and his hands unconsciously curled into fists until his knuckles whitened.
That’s where the scent came from…
It’s a normal thing for Night Class students to come to the school building during the day to get breakfast and lunch, though it was rare. Kyuhyun had already memorized everything about Park Academy, from the students’ movements to every nook and cranny of the Academy. He knew that the Night Class students and Day Class students shared the same dining hall and that will mean during lunch and breakfast he’ll have to eat in the same atmosphere as the Vampires.
Which disgusts him to the core.
“That’s very rude,” Hyunseung frowned childishly, though his eyes shone with something far more childish and in a second, Kyuhyun found the Vampire an inch apart from his face, their breath mingling together. “You didn’t greet me back, Mr. Prefect.”
Kyuhyun gritted his teeth. If he could, he would’ve just shot the Vampire through his heart, killing him instantly. But knowing he’s bind to the fucking rules, he stayed silent.
“Angry much?” Hyunseung taunted, head tilted with a smirk spread on his face.
“Hyunseung.”
Kyuhyun and Hyunseung’s attention snapped towards the voice, which belonged to another Night Class student. He’s about an inch shorter from Hyunseung, chestnut hair, slightly chubby cheeks and naturally pouty lips (and Kyuhyun couldn’t help the slight irritation in him at the small similarity of this Vampire with him). He was gripping the edge of Hyunseung’s shirt lightly, a small frown settled itself between his brows.
Hyunseung clicked his tongue in annoyance but he backed away from Kyuhyun nevertheless, “Well, if I could, I would play with you a bit longer, Mr. Prefect. But knowing that you still need to learn,” the Vampire smirked at this, “I’ll let you go.”
“Bye-bye,” the latter sing-sang in English as he walked away from a very pissed Kyuhyun.
--
He was panting.
It’s heavy. His body felt heavy, as if there’s a weight pressing on top of his body. He tried to move, but he couldn’t. Not even a twitch.
He jolted when pain suddenly surged through his body, like electric shock. He shut his eyes tightly, his mouth didn’t stop chanting the prayer, oh God, please stop, please stop. Stop, stop, stop, but the pain was still there. He tried to move away from anything or anyone who was hurting him, but he couldn’t.
So he stayed still, tears rolling down his cheeks, feeling helpless.
“-hyun… Kyuhyun! Kyuhyun-”
Minseok’s eyes widened when Kyuhyun suddenly grabbed his collar, pulling him down harshly until half of his body was on the prefect’s table. He yelped at the harsh contact, “K-Kyuhyun!?”
Kyuhyun was breathing hard, his eyes widened and wild. It almost as if he was scared of something. Minseok took a deep breath, calming himself down. If he’s panicking then that’ll make Kyuhyun even more scared (of something he didn’t know). He hesitantly put his hand on top of Kyuhyun’s hand, the one that’s grabbing his collar, jumping a little when Kyuhyun flinched at the contact, but still holding tight.
“Kyuhyun…” Minseok started, smiling a bit, “It’s me Minseok.”
Something flickered in Kyuhyun’s eyes and Minseok took it as a sign to continue, “Don’t worry, Kyuhyun… I’m not going to hurt you, okay?”
Then suddenly, as if being awoken from a dream, Kyuhyun blinked rapidly, the fear in his eyes vanished instantly. He let go of Minseok’s collar in surprise, “Wh-What!? Mi-Minseok! I-I’m-sorry! I-I didn’t know-I just-I-I-”
Chansung smiled, stopping Kyuhyun, “It’s okay. It’s my fault. I forgot the Chairman told me about your sleeping habits. He reminded me and the teachers to never wake you up during your sleeps.”
“H-He did?” Minseok’s curiosity arose at the slight worry in Kyuhyun’s eyes, “What else did he tell you?”
“Uh,” Chansung shrugged, “Just that don’t wake you up if you don’t want your nose broken. That’s all.”
Kyuhyun sighed in relieved at this. No wonder the teachers didn’t wake him up when he slept through classes. He smiled at Minseok, “Sorry about that.”
“Nah, it’s fine. I’ve seen worst. You know, there’s a student who has sleep-walking habit,” the head of male’s Sun Dormitory started as he exited the class, Kyuhyun followed suit, “He’s always sleep-walking during classes and it drives the teachers insane because he kept imitating the teachers during his sleep. He said he dreamt of being a teacher.”
Minseok ended his story with a laugh and Kyuhyun chuckled lightly. The head dormitory stopped laughing after a while to look at Kyuhyun, a small smile tugging on his lips, “You know, you should smile often. You looked good.”
Kyuhyun snorted at this, “No thanks. My outer appearance is crucial considering my job as a prefect.”
“Yah, are you saying I’m not a good prefect because I’m not scowling all the time?”
“I’m not saying-Wait, I did not scowl the whole time!”
“Sure you did. Like this,” Minseok scowled, failingly imitating Kyuhyun’s ‘scowl’. The prefect gawked in disbelieve and raised his hand to hit Minseok, “I did not look like that!”
“You did, Mr. Prefect!” Minseok laughed as he ran away from Kyuhyun, not wanting to get hit. He knew Kyuhyun won’t hurt him and it’s just a friendly hit, but he still wants to escape thank you very much.
Kyuhyun stared at the laughing male before shaking his head lightly with a smile while walking towards the cafeteria, “I can’t believe we’re already this close.”
--
Jungsu stared at the group of teenagers; there are so many questions in his head right now and mainly it’s about why they were here.
“Sorry for your door, Chairman,” the only girl in the group spoke after taking a sip of her tea that was prepared by Youngwoon (speaking of him, the assistant was shaking while explaining and apologizing to Jungsu why he couldn’t stop those teenagers).
Jungsu nodded, “Why are you here?” he asked directly. It’s not like he hated them, in fact he had known them from their diaper days but still, their visits to Park Academy might not welcomed by some of his students.
“Ouch, I’m hurt,” the girl mocked a pout, “Didn’t the Association told you?” Jungsu raised his brows in puzzlement as a smirk broke across the girl’s face, “We’re joining the Academy.”
The Chairman’s eyes widened, “You-You what!?”
“We’re joining the Academy,” the girl repeated, “We’ll be your students, Mr. Chairman.”
“B-But I was not informed-”
“Aww, too bad that’s your problem with the Association,” the girls shrugged indifferently.
Jungsu sighed as he took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose, “Okay…” He took a deep breath before exhaling heavily, “Okay, fine. You’ll be the students of this academy, but!” he stopped abruptly to look at the new students with seriousness all over his face, “Kyuhyun won’t like this, you know.”
The girl grinned before her face turned serious. She leaned forward, her face a few inches away from the Chairman, “That’s his fucking problem. I don ‘t care.”
The pair stayed silent for a while before the Chairman sighed again and leaned back, “Fine, do as you like. But, you know the rules, right?”
“Already memorized them, Mr. Chairman,” the girl stood, her other friends who had been silent all the time, followed suit. They walked to the what-used-to-be-a-door before the girl stopped to smile at Jungsu over her shoulder, “I can handle Kyuhyun, Jungsu oppa. Don’t worry.”
Jungsu’s tensed body relaxed at the girl’s words as he nodded, “I know… Chaerin-ah.”
Chaerin smiled one last time before she exited the Chairman’s office.
--
Kyuhyun stopped frozen in his steps when he sensed the same foreign scent from earlier morning. He frowned, he knew this isn’t a Vampire’s scent. It was something else. However, before he could figure out whose scents were those, the school cafeteria suddenly went quiet as the students shuffled to the sides as if making way for something or someone.
And he was right when a group of Night Class students entered the dining hall.
“Good afternoon, Day Class,” the head of male’s Moon Dormitory or rather, leader of the pack, Lee Donghae greeted with a small smile. His husky and deep voice resonated through the hall, the one that made your every hair of your body stood, that made your shiver and Kyuhyun really wished he’s not affected at all.
A chorus of ‘good afternoon’ came from the Day Class students including Minseok and except for Kyuhyun. He was standing straight, eyes never leaving the group of Vampires.
“Still arrogant, aren’t you Mr. Prefect?”
Kyuhyun’s body went rigid when one of the Night Class students stopped in front of him, a smirk pulling on his lips. Like always, he chose to stay silent, knowing that’ll be the smartest thing to do right now. He didn’t want to start a fight (but he would love to if he was given the chance) considering there are Day Class students and… the rules.
“Ryeowook,” Donghae said, stopping on his tracks. The other Night Class students also came to a stop and all attention was on the head male.
“I already made it clear to stop bothering the prefect, right?”
“But still,” Ryeowook pouted and was about to say something when Donghae gave him a look. The dining hall went quieter and there’s ominous aura surrounding the hall as Donghae spoke lowly, “Stop bothering the prefect, Ryeowook.”
Ryeowook bit his lips as he lowered his head, the atmosphere was tensed and thick that made Kyuhyun felt uncomfortable, what’s this-
His train of thoughts was stopped when he sensed the same scent again. Only this time, stronger. He whipped his head towards the dining hall’s entrance, it’s not the Night Class students and it’s coming. He quickly gets into position; standing in the middle of the Night Class’s path, feet extended and his hand already ready for his weapon. All the students’ - Night and Day Class - attention was on him, whispers and murmurs surrounding the hall.
“What’s wrong, Kyuhyun-ah?” Minseok asked carefully, worried at Kyuhyun’s sudden action.
The prefect glared at the door, “The fuck… They’re coming?”
Before Minseok could ask who does Kyuhyun meant by ‘they’, the door of the dining hall was suddenly kicked open (again, literally) and a childish, male voice greeting happily in English, “Good afternoon, guys~!!”
The Day Class students near the entrance coughed and backed away from the entrance as the dust from the destroyed door filled the air, causing difficulties for Kyuhyun to see the culprit (but he already figured out whom).
His glare hardened as the smoke disappeared, revealing a tall male with blonde hair and Western-like face, “Dongwoon.”
“Hey, hyung~!” the said male - Son Dongwoon - grinned childishly, even though what he just did earlier was not childish at all.
“Dongwoon,” another voice, a female’s voice, piped in, “You already destroyed two doors. The Chairman will grow bald if you keep on like this.”
Dongwoon pouted, “But Chaerin! It’s the coolest way to make our appearance!”
Lee Chaerin - brown hair and feline eyes - rolled her eyes, “Whatever, Dongwoon. We’re already cool so there’s no need to kick the door.”
“What are you doing here?” Kyuhyun growled towards the intruders, patience running away.
Chaerin made a face, “Ayyy, that’s not how you greet your best buddies, Kyuhyun-ah~”
Kyuhyun’s eyes twitched at the tone, “I’m serious, Chaerin. What the fuck are you guys doing here?”
Chaerin smirked, her playfulness gone. She calmly walked towards the prefect, and stopped right in front of him, her eyes locked with the prefect’s. She stayed still like that for a second before grinning at the dumbfounded students in the dining hall, “Annyeonghaseyo! My name is Lee Chaerin, the new student of Park Academy!”
Kyuhyun’s head snapped towards the girl, eyes widened and before he could say anything, Chaerin continued, “And for your information, the five of us will be one of the Day Class’s family.”
“Chaerin, what are-”
“Ah, and one more thing,” her grin turned into a sly smirk, “We’re also the new prefects of Park Academy.”
Whispers and murmurs spread across the dining hall the moment the words came out from Chaerin’s mouth. Kyuhyun grabbed her arm lightly, “What are you saying?”
“I’m saying what I’m saying,” the girl replied casually, “Oh right! I almost forgot to introduce my other friends.”
The students’ attentions were directed back to her and the murmurs quiet down a bit. Chaerin took it as a sign to proceed, “The one who kicked the door is Dongwoon, Son Dongwoon.”
“Hey ya’ll~!” the said male winked.
“The one with spiky hair is Yoon Doojoon.”
“Hi,” Doojoon greeted simply with a smile.
“The one with light brown and wavy hair is Shim Changmin,” Chaerin introduced and Changmin raised his hand with a charming smile in return.
“And lastly, our Pand-I mean, Lee Seunghyun. You can call him Seungri though,” she finished, missing Seungri’s baby glare before the male smiled and nodded a bit.
Chaerin nodded at her team before returning her gaze towards the students, “I have another announcement to make, but considering that it’s lunchtime and not all Night Class students are here, I’ll make the announcement tonight during dinner.” She locked eyes with Donghae, “Can you remind that to the rest of Night Class students? Donghae-ssi?”
Donghae stayed silent while the other Night Class students gave the nonchalant newbie a disapproving look before he return the same smirk to her, “Of course, Chaerin-ssi.”
“Good. Well, I hope we’ll have great times together,” Chaerin grinned before turning around and walked away, “Enjoy your lunch.”
Kyuhyun stared at the female, confused and dumbfounded before Changmin went and grabbed his hand, “Changmin-ah…”
“We’ll explain. Let’s go,” the younger one smiled pathetically at him before dragging him with the rest of the team. Kyuhyun shot Minseok an apologetic smile while the other male just nodded, mouthing an ‘I understand’ to him.
Kyuhyun sighed as he let Changmin pulled him, this is a mess…
Donghae let his eyes lingered on the retreating students for a while before Jessica nudged him, “Hae? Are you okay?”
“Those newbie are really getting on my nerve! How could she spoke to Donghae like that?” Tiffany said, glaring at the dining hall’s entrance. If she could, she would’ve rip cut open the girl’s throat for being so rude to Donghae.
“It’s fine, Tiffany,” Donghae suddenly spoke. He turned around and proceed to his table, the Night Class following him obediently, “Just like you said. They are newbie.”
Minseok sighed as he ordered the Day Class students to retreat and take their seats with the help of the head of female’s Sun Dormitory, Seo Joohyun. The two exchanged worried looks and Chansung bit his lips in worry, what are you hiding from me, Kyuhyun-ah?
--
“So, explain.”
Chaerin, Seungri, Dongwoon, Doojoon and Changmin bit their lips as they kneeled in front of very annoyed and pissed Kyuhyun, whose currently standing in front of them, hands crossed over his chest and looked like he’s going snap somebody’s neck anytime soon.
“I told you it’s a bad idea,” Seungri whispered as he nudged Chaerin. The female hushed him with a glare, “Shut up!”
“I said, explain,” Kyuhyun repeated, voice going an octave lower, causing the five to flinched at his tone.
“Now, now, Kyuhyun,” Jungsu interrupted with a smile (though he himself was scared), “Let us all talk nicely like rational adults, okay?”
“Rational? Adults?” Kyuhyun scoffed. And scoffed. Before laughing maniacally, shocking everyone in the office. He laughed for another good minute before turning around and slammed Jungsu’s table, almost breaking it to half, “How do you expect me to discuss rationally with THEM!?”
“They broke into your office - kicking two doors until they’re destroyed,” he glared at one particular blonde who’s now sweating in fear, “Barged into the dining hall and announce they’re the new prefects without telling ME!” This time his eyes landed on Chaerin who still managed to look indifferent, “You think THAT’S rational!?”
“You guys made me looked like an idiot!!” Kyuhyun exclaimed in frustration.
“Kyuhyun-ah… Let them explain, okay? I’m sure there is a good explanation for this,” Jungsu tried to calm the younger male again while patting his shoulder, nervous eyes glancing at his broken table, ayy…good-bye my money…
“You don’t understand,” Kyuhyun sighed tiredly as he massaged his temple, “I’m not here to play, okay? I’m here because I have a duty to protect Humans from all those blood-sucking monsters, so if you don’t have a legit reason on why you’re here, then you’d better fucking leave this Academy this instant.”
The office went tensed silence at Kyuhyun’s words. Chaerin stood up after a moment, her face mirrored Kyuhyun’s serious one, “We knew that already. Just like you, we’re not here to play either. We want to help you, Kyuhyun.”
“Help?” Kyuhyun scoffed lightly before the stern look returned, “I told you I don’t need help.”
Chaerin stayed silent at this before speaking out, “That’s too bad then, since the Association is not thinking the same.”
Kyuhyun frowned at this, “Yes, Kyuhyun. We’re not here just because we want to. We were ordered by the Association to come here and help Chairman Park to guard Park Academy.”
Chaerin smirked when Kyuhyun’s eyes darkened in anger, “Now you understand why, right?” Kyuhyun oppa?”
a/n: hi guys sorry for this late update and I have an announcement to make. this is probably the last update from me because I’m taking a long rest. about a month ago I was diagnosed with leukaemia and I’ve been really depressed. that’s why the previous chapter was a late update. I may have to enter rehab-I don’t really know but, this story will still continue. I know some of you are still waiting with my sow update and I swear to god, I really appreciate you guys. if I can, I’ll try to update the next few chapters but the upcoming chapters most probably will be updated by my friend,
