The City of Santa Cruz wants to close the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum at the lighthouse ( my dad founded and help keep it going all these years). Along with that, they plan to CLOSE Harvey West Pool. The Natural History Museum at Seabright and a few other vital community areas in Santa Cruz.
Im going to meet with a lot of local surfers at lighthouse point at the museum at 2:30 on Tuesday, thats December 9th, and protest, or, give support. My dad already has the media coming and a lot of people. It would mean alot if any of you could come out and help to keep this 22 year old museum going.
Its been around since I was born in 1986. Last year we had over 35,000 visitors from all over the world. Greenland to Africa. China to Greece..You get it..thats only one year. Imagine how many people have learned the unique history of Santa Cruz Surfing from that little room full of surf stuff ( my mom's round skim board is in there and a pic of her surfing 26th ave. come check it). In 1886 3 Hawaiian princes surfed the San Lorenzo river mouth and became the first surfers to surf the continental United States. History like THIS will not be widley known if we dont at least TRY to keep this museum open. Please, come out and support. Thanks guys!
