I've never posted any of my poetry here before, but something pauraque posted made me think of it. This isn't very characteristic of my more recent work (or much earlier either), although I have often used variants of the archaic idiom, but it's one of several poems I've written that has dream birds (sometimes dream butterflies) in them.

A Nocturnal Upon St. Lucy's Day, Being the Shortest Day

Y'know, I've been meaning to post this poem anyway, along with a passage from Nabokov's Pale Fire, because they are faves that remind me of my love of fan fiction, in it's Enobling Aspect. This is a bit long, but it's straightforward (not like most Ashbery). Except for, y'know, the irony and the weird tonal stuff...
